The Future of Deadpool: Insights from Ryan Reynolds
In light of the success achieved by Deadpool and Wolverine, actor Ryan Reynolds expresses a differing perspective on the character’s future within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). His recent comments during an engaging discussion with fellow actor Andrew Garfield shed light on how he envisions Deadpool’s role moving forward.
In an interview for Variety‘s series, Actors on Actors, Reynolds divulged that he anticipates Deadpool might take on a supporting role rather than lead in upcoming projects.
Ryan Reynolds says he sees Deadpool as more of a supporting character: “If he comes back, it’s gonna be in someone else’s movie. Channing Tatum…I would happily be a fifth banana in his movie or anyone else’s.â€\u009d | #ActorsOnActors https://t.co/bJohcw40hA pic.twitter.com/dMnbgFieFr — Variety (@Variety) December 9, 2024
“I see Deadpool as a supporting character, much more than he is the main [character]. We center him sometimes because that’s what they want, but you can’t center him unless you take everything away from him. You have to create a situation where he is so much the underdog, and I don’t think I can do that again.
If he comes back, it’s gonna be in someone else’s movie. Channing Tatum, so excited to play Gambit, and I would happily be a fifth banana in his movie or anyone else’s.”
This perspective raises questions about the future integration of Deadpool within the expanding MCU landscape. As the franchise evolves, the incorporation of characters in supporting roles rather than as leads may be a strategy to strengthen the ensemble dynamic and capitalize on collaborative storytelling.
