It has become increasingly evident that Star Wars Outlaws has not met the sales expectations typically associated with a major AAA open-world Star Wars game. Ubisoft has recently acknowledged that the initial sales results for this sci-fi title were “softer than anticipated,” and additional insights regarding its commercial performance have now come to light.
According to physical sales data provided by GSD (via GamesIndustry), while Star Wars Outlaws secured the No. 2 position in physical software sales in Europe for August—trailing only Grand Theft Auto 5—the sales figures ultimately fell short of expectations. Although Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s sci-fi title recorded higher first-week physical sales in Europe compared to 2020’s Star Wars Squadrons, the numbers were still less than half of the launch sales achieved by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor last year.
Reports indicated that Star Wars Outlaws had sold around 800,000 units by the end of August.
Shortly after its launch, Massive Entertainment released a patch for the open-world game, introducing cross-save capabilities and adjusting the difficulty of some early insta-fail stealth missions. The next update is scheduled for release on October 3, with an additional patch expected in November.
Star Wars Outlaws – Wild Card, the first of two planned paid expansions for the game, will launch on November 21. This date will also mark the game’s release on Steam.
Star Wars Outlaws is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Be sure to check out our review of the game here.
