Essential Insights
- A standalone film for Scarlet Witch is not on the immediate horizon given the packed schedule of the MCU.
- Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of the character may appear in Vision Quest, along with future titles like Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
- The desire among fans for a Scarlet Witch narrative remains robust, even after her villainous depiction in Doctor Strange 2.
Fans have long been awaiting a Scarlet Witch solo film featuring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. However, recent rumors indicate that such a project is unlikely to join Marvel Studios’ current MCU lineup anytime soon.
Following the conclusion of WandaVision, where Wanda freed the people of Westview from her enchantment and chose a path of solitude, she re-emerged as a formidable foe in Doctor Strange 2. Corrupted by the Darkhold, her goal was to acquire America Chavez’s multiverse-traveling abilities to locate a universe where her sons, Billy and Tommy, still lived. These children were created through the hex that transformed Westview into a sitcom backdrop, which Wanda had to relinquish following the spell’s termination. Ultimately, Wanda realized her mistakes and sacrificed herself to dismantle Mount Wundagore, the source of the Darkhold’s influence, obliterating every copy of the artifact throughout the multiverse.
Despite Wanda’s fate, many believe Marvel Studios owes the character a dedicated film. Although whispers of a possible project are circulating, Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus stated that a Scarlet Witch film announcement will take time. With D23 Brazil coming up from November 8-10, fans are hopeful for a formal reveal, but Perez tempered those expectations by stating, “The announcement for that project won’t happen at D23 or anytime soon for the foreseeable future.”When quizzed about the reason, Perez pointed out that the current lineup is too full:
There’s no room between now and Secret Wars. Her storyline is set to evolve further, but it requires a bit of patience.

I hear Wanda will play a significant role in both Avengers films and will spend considerable time with RDJ’s Doom (as his romantic interest?) pic.twitter.com/y59oBx5qt0 — MyTimeToShineHello (@MyTimeToShineH) October 9, 2024
Even though the release of a Scarlet Witch standalone film may come after Avengers: Secret Wars, Elizabeth Olsen might reprise her role in another MCU project prior. Insiders suggest that Olsen’s Scarlet Witch could feature prominently in Vision Quest (a Disney Plus series that acts as the third part of the trilogy initiated by WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along), which focuses on Paul Bettany’s character, Vision, following the events of WandaVision. According to rumors from MyTimeToShineHello, Olsen is set to have a crucial presence in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
Therefore, while fans might need to hold on until after Avengers: Secret Wars for a Scarlet Witch solo film, there are indications that the character will continue to appear in various sequences in the Multiverse saga. Since her introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch has gained considerable popularity. Nevertheless, some fans were disappointed to see her become a villain in Doctor Strange 2 due to her actions, including murder, which many believe are unforgivable. The narrative sought redemption by attributing her actions to the Darkhold’s influence, yet fans remain divided, with some longing for a redemptive arc while others prefer her villainous essence. Regardless, the demand for her return is evident, and it would be prudent for Marvel Studios to heed this enthusiasm.
WandaVision and Agatha All Along are currently available for streaming on Disney Plus.
