Season 2 Recap: Key Highlights to Remember Before Season 3 Arrives

With the conclusion of From season 2 on June 25, 2023, the series has been officially renewed for a third season set to premiere on September 24, 2024. This acclaimed series, produced by MGM+ and Epix, delves into the enigmatic events of a supernatural town that ensnares hapless travelers. A family finds themselves caught in its clutches and must learn to coexist with the town’s long-present inhabitants.

Yet, the town is rife with secrets and dangers that challenge everyone’s survival. A notable mystery centers on the method to escape the town and return to the outside world, a feat achieved by Tabitha Matthews at the conclusion of From season 2.

From season 2 explores the escape from the town

Tabitha Matthews, Jim’s wife and the mother of Julie, Ethan, and the deceased Thomas Matthews, grapples with her family’s fate. In the final episode of From season 2, her children, along with Randall and Marielle, succumb to comas while tormented by unseen entities. Sheriff Boyd Stevens suspects that a haunting music box, which plays a disquieting nursery rhyme, is the cause of the torment and hurriedly attempts to destroy it. Meanwhile, Tabitha and Jade brave a perilous forest to decode the children’s enigmas and the symbols that populate their dreams.

Jade discovers a symbol within a tunnel that incites another vision depicting children sprawled on rocks, whispering “anghkooey.” Concurrently, Tabitha’s visions guide her towards a lighthouse.

The climactic revelation occurs when Tabitha is thrust out of the lighthouse, landing in a hospital in the external world, successfully having broken free from the town’s confines.

From season 2 establishes numerous mysteries

Throughout From season 2, significant emphasis is placed on the mysterious children featured in Tabitha’s visions. These eerie images were also previously experienced by Victor’s mother, a notable resident of Colony House who was trapped in the town during her childhood.

In episode 8, a flashback reveals Victor’s mother’s visit to the same lighthouse as Tabitha, in hopes of finding an escape route, but she ultimately vanishes.

The Boy in White, presumed to be the leader of the vision children, intervenes to push Tabitha out of the lighthouse after her arrival. He has previously assisted other residents, including Boyd, Ethan, Sara, and Victor, seemingly acting as a guardian angel. Another pivotal location in the series is the Bottle Tree, first introduced in the season 1 finale; its genuine purpose is disclosed by Victor in season 2.

According to Victor, the Bottle Tree serves as a special conduit that can transport anyone who approaches it to the lighthouse. Notably, the lighthouse is usually obscured from those trapped within the town’s mysterious confines, thus making the Bottle Tree one of the rare pathways to the outside world.

Another intriguing puzzle revolves around the word “anghkooey,” uttered by the children during Tabitha’s visions. Although this term does not have a precise translation, its meaning remains elusive. It may potentially allude to the Celtic mythology figure Ankou, a personification of death.

While From season 2 concluded with the tantalizing possibility of escaping the mysterious town, numerous horrors still await those ensnared within it. Don’t miss the upcoming From season 3, premiering on September 24, 2024.
