On September 18, 2024, Disney+ unveiled episodes 5 and 6 of Seoul Busters, a South Korean crime comedy featuring an impressive cast including Kim Dong-wook, Park Ji-hwan, Seo Hyun-woo, Park Se-wan, and Lee Seung-woo.
The first four episodes of Seoul Busters revolved around an underachieving detective unit facing disciplinary actions following an improperly handled high-profile case. After their transfer, the team’s new captain, boasting exceptional credentials and even a doctorate, had a previous offer from the FBI. Under his strategic leadership, they were able to crack a significant case.
In episodes 5 and 6 of Seoul Busters, known as the ‘Nation’s Worst Ranked’ violent crimes detective squad, the team strengthened their dynamics while undertaking yet another complex investigation under their captain’s guidance. These episodes featured special guests Yoon Jae-chan and Ando Gyu, both of whom previously appeared in the 2023 tvN drama Twinkling Watermelon.
Recap of Seoul Busters Episodes 5 & 6: Tension, Confessions, and Personal Moments Amidst an Arson Mystery
Episode 5 of Seoul Busters kicked off with the squad initiating their investigation. The team split into groups to interrogate potential suspects linked to a recent arson case. A university friend of Hyo-joo, the restaurant owner’s daughter, revealed that her ex, Nam Jung-hyun (Yoon Jae-chan), had been harassing and stalking her since their break-up.
As the investigation unfolded, Yu-bin (Kim Dong-wook), the new captain, declined to absolve Yoon Min-soo, the restaurant owner, from suspicion. Yoon Min-soo is the treasured coach of Mu Jung-ryeok (Park Ji-hwan), and this decision ignited tension between Yu-bin and Jung-ryeok.
Yu-bin revisited the crime scene repeatedly to reconstruct the events, though his efforts yielded no clarity. Meanwhile, Jung-ryeok felt frustrated by the captain’s ongoing suspicion towards his beloved coach. He eventually discovered an audio recording of Hyo-joo calling the police about Nam Jung-hyun lurking outside her apartment, leading him to arrest Jung-hyun, convinced of his guilt.
However, it turned out that Nam Jung-hyun had a solid alibi despite admitting to stalking Hyo-joo. This revelation irked Jung-ryeok, prompting him to confront Jung-hyun, only for Jeong Jeong-hwan (Seo Hyun-woo) to intervene. This confrontation led the chief officer to reprimand the squad due to Jung-hyun’s complaint.
The situation calmed when Seo Min-seo (Park Se-wan) asserted that the suspect’s lack of cooperation exacerbated the problem. Nonetheless, the chief officer warned the team before leaving, having summoned Yu-bin for accountability.
Later in episode 5, Yu-bin learned from the head of the forensic team, Jang Eun-kyeong (Son Eun-seo), that flammable liquid was discovered at the arson site, growing suspicions surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, Hyo-joo regained consciousness but suffered from memory loss due to her brain injury.
While back at the precinct, Yu-bin recalled a stainless steel medal prominently displayed in the restaurant. Given the intensity of the fire, the medal should have melted, yet it remained intact at the coach’s home, raising further suspicions about Min-soo’s involvement and escalating conflicts with Jung-ryeok.
Additionally, squad member Jang Tan-sik (Lee Seung-woo) uncovered financial issues at the restaurant and Min-soo’s recent insurance claims. This led to the collection of more evidence supporting Yu-bin’s theory.
Episode 5 concluded with Jung-ryeok receiving a tip regarding the Hyo-joo case. However, episode 6 saw this tip morph into a retaliation from Nam Jung-hyun, who sent a gang after Jung-ryeok. Showcasing his impressive boxing skills once again, Jung-ryeok defended himself effectively.
Following this encounter, Jung-ryeok conversed with another coach who revealed that Min-soo had invested heavily in a cryptocurrency scam, plunging him into significant debt. He gathered further evidence and met with Min-soo to discuss Hyo-joo’s health, offering financial assistance for her hospital expenses.
Afterward, Jung-ryeok presented Min-soo’s evidence to Yu-bin, prompting additional investigations that led them to Ji-woong (Ando Gyu), a teenage boxing trainee and part-timer at the restaurant. Ji-woong initially hesitated but ultimately confessed that the arson was indeed orchestrated by Min-soo. He revealed that Hyo-joo inadvertently stumbled into the situation and hurt herself while trying to intervene. The Seoul Busters swiftly took action, arresting both Min-soo and Ji-woong.
Concluding on a lighter note, episode 6 showcased glimpses into the personal lives of the squad. Jeong Jeong-hwan successfully acquired a miniature T-rex model for his daughter’s birthday, while Seo Min-seo received a message from her sister, indicating their sick father wished to see her.
In the final scene of Seoul Busters episode 6, Min-seo contemplated removing a group photo taken at Min-soo’s restaurant due to her awkward expression. In a humorous twist, Yu-bin entered just in time, ordering her to keep the photo on display.
Episodes 7 and 8 of Seoul Busters will be available on Disney+ starting at 12:30 PM IST on September 25, 2024 and 4 PM KST.
