Dancing with the Stars‘ Anna Delvey is facing significant backlash due to her participation in the popular reality show. This controversy erupted following reports that Delvey is a convicted felon, having been found guilty of eight crimes and an immigration overstay.
The hit television show pairs celebrities with professional dance partners, with each duo performing weekly to be evaluated by judges as well as audiences at home. Dancing with the Stars season 33 kicked off on September 17, 2024, on ABC.
In a recent interview with The U.S. Sun, Delvey’s co-star on DWTS, Joey Graziadei, was asked about the backlash surrounding Delvey’s involvement. He acknowledged the significant media attention, stating:
“To tell you the truth, I’ve gotten to meet Anna a few times. She seems great.”

In the same interview, Graziadei mentioned that he hadn’t interacted much with Delvey, as he was focused on preparing for his dance routine in the Dancing with the Stars season 33 premiere.
The Bachelorette runner-up expressed his nerves about the impending performance, worried about embarrassing himself, saying:
“I have not had a lot of interactions. But my mindset right now is I’m just focusing on how not to make an idiot [of] myself in a few days so that is where my head is.”
Graziadei also commented on the importance of ignoring the surrounding controversy, emphasizing his commitment to the show and expressing gratitude for the opportunity. He stated:
“I try not to focus on all the noise around it. I’m happy for everyone that’s got an opportunity this season and for me, like I said, my focus is on trying to make sure I keep my feet under me. That’s really where my head’s been at.”
The 29-year-old praised the dedicated professional dance partners, noting their focus on enhancing the celebrity contestants’ dancing skills. He emphasized how they prepare each participant for their performances.
“They really do focus on each individual feeling important, getting their ability to focus on what they should be focusing on, which is dancing, and getting as good as you can before night one,”he said.

During the Dancing with the Stars season premiere, Anna Delvey performed a cha-cha with her professional dance partner Ezra Sosa. Despite her routine set to Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Espresso,”the primary focus was her ankle monitor, which she was required to wear due to her immigration-related legal issues.
Delvey faced charges for eight crimes, including grand larceny in 2019, during which she posed as a wealthy German heiress, deceiving friends and financial institutions into giving her large sums of money. Although she was released from prison in 2021, she was later charged for overstaying her visa and spent 18 months in an immigration detention center.
After her release in 2022, Delvey was permitted to participate in Dancing with the Stars, contingent on wearing her ankle monitor.
Dancing with the Stars season 33 episode 2 is set to air on ABC on September 24, 2024.
