In episode 7 of Silo season 2, the inhabitants of Silo 18’s Mechanical department devise a clever strategy to challenge Bernard and the IT. Meanwhile, Juliette continues her arduous journey home, but the Mechanical team refuses to let Bernard’s tactics stifle their uprising. Understanding that his actions to restrict their movement to upper levels are designed to derail their quest for truth, the Mechanical citizens creatively devise a plan to counter Bernard’s oppressive measures.
Their ingenuity emerges prominently in this episode, as they manage to place Bernard in a precarious situation without ascending the stairs. Initially, their actions may come off as unconventional, but as the plot unfolds, their rationale becomes increasingly clear.

The Head of Security has blocked access to the lower levels of the Silo, erecting barricades to prevent the Mechanical inhabitants from spreading their revolutionary ideas to the upper floors. While episode 6 reveals that the Mechanical citizens have pushed the barricades up to level 120, breaking through the higher levels without resorting to violence seems out of reach.
As a solution, the Mechanical engineers construct a rocket-like apparatus designed to breach these constraints. This innovative device, powered by a robust engine, ascends nearly to the Silo’s ceiling before deploying a parachute and gently releasing hundreds of notes. This strategic move allows them to disseminate their messages to the citizens above, casting doubt on the intentions of the Silo’s leadership and the IT department.

Although the Mechanical citizens aim to stir doubts about IT’s true motives among the upper-level residents, they soon realize that sending mere notes through a rocket isn’t sufficient to change minds. Bernard’s actions, including the assassination of Meadows—and deceitfully framing Knox and Shirley—effectively tarnish the Mechanical’s image, complicating their cause.
To reinforce their claims with persuasive evidence, the Mechanical devises a follow-up plan that could significantly shift the tide against Bernard and his leadership.

The Power Cut Validates Their Concerns
To underscore the suspicions surrounding IT’s operations, the Mechanical team decides to cut the power throughout the entire Silo. Episode 2 previously established that IT’s operations rely on a separate power source linked to the outside world. By severing power to the Silo, the Mechanical asserts that the IT operates as an independent entity, raising questions among the upper levels.
While this maneuver does not definitively reveal IT’s clandestine activities, it serves to spark inquiry into Bernard’s transparency. By casting doubt on his credibility, the Mechanical successfully recruits some citizens from higher levels, inspiring them to join the rebellion against Bernard in Silo season 2.
