Sister Wives Star Christine Takes Legal Action Against Ex-Husband Kody Brown

Stars of Sister Wives, Christine and Kody Brown, ended their relationship in November 2021. Although they had been in a spiritual marriage since 1994, they were not legally married. Together, they expanded their family and became parents to Aspyn, Mykelti, Paedon, Gwendlyn, Ysabel, and their youngest child, Truely.

Christine was Kody’s third wife, and their split came shortly after tensions escalated among Kody’s other wives.

Recently, Christine filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband for child support and custody of their 14-year-old daughter. As reported in In Touch Weekly on September 19, 2024, Christine submitted the legal documentation on Monday, September 16, 2024.

The legal papers indicate that Kody’s name is not listed on Truely’s birth certificate, as both Kody and Christine previously resided in Utah, where fathers are not recorded on the birth certificates of polygamous families. This lawsuit aims for Christine to establish paternity for her daughter while also seeking child support.

This development does not surprise fans of the TLC series, as Christine has previously indicated Kody’s lack of involvement in their children’s lives. Additionally, Kody is known to have a strained or distant relationship with his other children, a sentiment echoed by his wives. During the October 15, 2023, episode of the reality TV show, Christine expressed her desire to “preserve”her daughter’s relationship with her father by relocating to Utah from Flagstaff. She stated:

“When I lived in Flagstaff, I firmly believed that moving to Utah was the best choice for me and for Truely. I knew that I was taking Truely away from her dad. I felt like the best way to preserve Truely’s relationship with Kody was to move her away from him.”

According to Christine, moving to Utah was a means to “freeze” the connection between Kody and Truely while it “was still good.” However, Kody found this reasoning difficult to accept, labeling it “BS rationalization.”Kody Brown said:

“For Christine to think that she’s saving my relationship with Truely by taking her away from me and just ‘preserving’ it — that’s such B.S. rationalization.”

The lawsuit details also include a request for a domestic relations injunction, which prohibits Kody or Christine from engaging in domestic violence or harassment. This injunction also restricts them from taking their children anywhere without court orders.

This means that Sister Wives stars Kody and Christine may need to co-parent and come to a mutual agreement on matters related to Truely. Both parents will have to participate in decision-making rather than letting one parent dominate the process.

“I took their relationship while it was still good and I picked it up and I moved it. And then whenever we come back into town, I just pick it up again and I move it back.”

Fans can look forward to updates on this lawsuit and Kody’s response. Whether this issue will be addressed in the current season remains unclear.
