In a recent release from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), Kraven the Hunter has drawn attention for its attempt to replicate a memorable moment from Chris Evans’ portrayal of Captain America. However, this homage falls short of the original’s impact. The SSU’s journey has been tumultuous since its inception. Although 2018’s Venom garnered commercial success, the concept of creating a universe centered around Spider-Man’s adversaries—without Spider-Man himself—has sparked much debate. Sony’s ambition to establish a successful shared cinematic universe akin to the MCU is evident, despite the limitations of its character roster. This ambition has resulted in some unexpected crossovers, including Vulture’s appearance in Morbius and Venom’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Remarkably, he manages to hold the net for several moments, even under the force of being submerged in water. This scene aims to showcase Kraven’s physical prowess by depicting him as capable of holding back a helicopter through sheer strength.

However, this sequence is reminiscent of a celebrated scene from Captain America: Civil War, in which Steve Rogers demonstrates his unrivaled strength by gripping the skids of a helicopter to prevent Bucky Barnes from leaving. In this iconic moment, audiences witness not just Captain America’s physical capabilities but also his relentless determination, as he clings to the helicopter until Bucky is forced to let him go.

Kraven the Hunter’s Scene Contrasted with Steve Rogers’ Strength

Both Kraven and Steve Rogers engage in a figurative tug-of-war with helicopters, a feat demanding incredible strength, as these machines can weigh in excess of 10,000 pounds, not including the additional weight of the occupants. However, the effectiveness of their respective strengths is markedly different. While Kraven ultimately succumbs to being dragged underwater and is forced to release the helicopter, losing his brother in the process, Steve Rogers successfully holds Bucky back, only relinquishing his grip when Bucky himself pushes against it.

The portrayal of these characters reveals much about their respective narratives. Steve Rogers’ impressive muscles are highlighted as he struggles to maintain his hold on the helicopter, with Chris Evans’ physique serving as a testament to the character’s strength and resolve. In contrast, Kraven is depicted wearing a long-sleeved shirt, and his failure to retain the helicopter’s hold diminishes his heroism.
