Spectre Divide, developed by Mountaintop Studios, was officially launched on September 3, 2024. Despite extensive marketing and anticipation, the game has already experienced a significant drop in player numbers. As per Steam Charts, the peak player count reached over 30,000 two weeks post-launch, but it has since fallen to approximately 6,000 to 10,000 players, with a recent 24-hour peak of 9,091, leaving the community astonished.
A post on Reddit by u/xFawtface2x garnered considerable attention as the user highlighted the game’s potential while acknowledging the dwindling player base. Nevertheless, a significant portion of the community remains optimistic about the game’s future.
User MinesweeperGang commented that it’s typical for a game like Spectre Divide, which just launched and had limited marketing, to experience fluctuations in player numbers. They noted:
“Blows me away that we even need to say this. It’s literally a brand-new game that hasn’t had that much advertising. Sitting at around 9k players right now. From when I’ve checked it’s usually between 7-9k which is fine.”
User derkerburgl expressed their surprise over the decline in player count, explaining that they view Spectre Divide as an ideal blend of gameplay styles from both Call of Duty and Valorant, and they have introduced it to friends who enjoy those franchises.

User Kyle_Ress encouraged fellow players to continue enjoying the game and to join the game’s Discord to foster community growth. They shared:
“I have been really enjoying the game, the synergy of abilities and specters is super fun when there is comms. I recommend jumping into Discord to find groups to play with (is) much more fun like that. I’m plat if anyone wants to jump in and play feel free to send me a DM.”
Lastly, u/soccerpuma03 pointed out that many negative comments on social media stem from personal opinions rather than concerns about the game’s quality. They also provided their thoughts on the developers at Mountaintop Studios:

Spectre Divide: Navigating the Declining Player Count
Since its release, Spectre Divide has encountered challenges with its player base. Reports indicate that some players are experiencing performance issues, particularly on lower-end PCs, as well as a ranking system that can feel unrewarding and slow progression pacing.
Despite these troubles, it’s important to remember that as a new title, in-game issues are not uncommon. With future updates and patches to Spectre Divide, there’s potential for an increase in player numbers in the months ahead.
