STALKER 2 Provides Unsatisfactory News on Possible PS5 Release

Overview of STALKER 2’s Platform Focus

  • Director Ievgen Grygorovych confirms current development prioritizes Xbox and PC versions.
  • GSC Game World enjoys profitable sales, with no immediate plans for a PlayStation release.
  • Development efforts are focused on bug fixes, indicating ongoing maintenance over potential PS5 adaptation.

The prospects of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl being available on PS5 anytime soon have taken a hit. GSC Game World’s director, Ievgen Grygorovych, has clarified that the team is exclusively working on the Xbox and PC versions of the title. As one of the key Xbox console exclusives set for release in 2024, the game remains unavailable on PlayStation platforms.

Since its launch on November 20, STALKER 2 has achieved remarkable sales, quickly amassing a large player base. The game’s success can be attributed not only to its engaging gameplay but also to the long wait since its announcement in 2010. GSC Game World experienced a profitable return shortly after the game’s release, largely fueled by the enthusiastic reception it received. Despite being an Xbox exclusive, there has been ongoing speculation about a possible PS5 version, but this appears to be unlikely based on the latest updates from the studio.

The director’s recent comments suggest a reluctance to discuss the possibility of bringing STALKER 2 to PlayStation. This contrasts with other Xbox-exclusive titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which announced a PS5 release prior to its launch on Xbox and PC. Such approaches have raised questions regarding Xbox’s strategy on multi-platform releases, especially after some reports indicated a backlash from Xbox fans regarding the early multi-platform announcements.

Even without a current plan for a PS5 version, the GSC Game World team is likely occupied with addressing bugs and optimizing the game following its rocky launch. Since its debut, the studio has rolled out substantial updates aimed at improving the player experience, with a recent release addressing close to 2,000 technical issues. The developer’s focus appears to be firmly on enhancing the current versions of the game rather than pursuing any potential PlayStation port at this time.
