Following the sentencing of Cardi B’s close friend, Star Brim, who pleaded guilty to RICO charges, the Instagram personality has finally turned herself in after requesting a delay in her surrender date. According to Hot New Hip Hop, Star Brim’s original surrender date was set for July 1.
Brim requested to postpone her surrender so that she could take her son to school on his first day of kindergarten, leading to a later date being set. On her final night of freedom, she was spotted with Cardi B, who initiated an Instagram Live session before her friend’s arrest, offering words of encouragement.
Emotional during the live stream, Cardi B expressed:
“This is a reset. Cuz when she graduates from big girl school, it’s going to be a whole brand new everything. It’s like we have grown up. You have become such a different person, and it’s just like, I really want people to hear her story and it’s so inspirational.”
During the live session, Cardi became teary-eyed and asked Brim to “cut the camera.”
As reported by Vibe, Star Brim, whose real name is Yonette Respass, is set to serve one year and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation. Born in 1991, Brim is a well-known Instagram model, event host, and occasional bartender.
“Every single time I need this little b*tch, she’s there”: Reflections on Star Brim and Cardi B’s Friendship
Star Brim, also known as Yonette Respass, has faced multiple charges, including fraud and assault, and spent her last day of freedom with rapper Cardi B. Although the details of their initial meeting remain unclear, during the live stream just before Brim’s surrender, she praised Cardi’s unwavering friendship, stating:
“Cardi is never there for me when I want her. But every single time I need this little b*tch, she’s there.”
Cardi B reciprocated by affirming that while she stands by her friend, she will also accept challenges and subject herself to “uncomfortable” situations. The rapper declared:
“If she going to be uncomfortable, I’mma put myself in situations where I’m uncomfortable.”
It’s important to note that Brim, along with 17 other alleged gang members, faced charges stemming from a RICO case that was adjudicated in February 2020. According to Vibe, Brim was frequently referred to as the gang’s “godmother” and was reportedly active within a racketeering conspiracy.
Additionally, other gang members have been charged with murder, but it remains unclear if Brim faces similar charges.
