Warning: This article includes significant SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 6. After five remarkable years since Bryce Dallas Howard’s inaugural directorial effort with The Mandalorian, her recent episode featuring in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew marks a notable shift in her trajectory within the Star Wars franchise. Her previous work has consistently garnered acclaim, particularly her standout episode in The Book of Boba Fett, titled “Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian,”which successfully reintroduced the beloved character Din Djarin. In Skeleton Crew, she continues to build on this robust reputation.
Episode 6, titled “Zero Friends Again,”showcases Howard’s exceptional ability to deliver a visually stunning narrative while deftly emphasizing the emotional undertones that drive the story. The talented young cast of Skeleton Crew shines under her guidance, echoing her earlier achievement in The Mandalorian season 1, episode 4, “Chapter 4: Sanctuary,”which first delved into the deeper layers of Din Djarin’s character. However, this recent episode presents a distinct departure from her prior works.
Bryce Dallas Howard’s First Episode Without Din Djarin
A Focus on the New Cast
For the first time in her Star Wars career, Howard’s direction in Skeleton Crew does not center on Din Djarin. As this series takes place concurrently with The Mandalorian, specifically in the aftermath of its third season, fans speculated whether Djarin might make a cameo to maintain continuity. Although his absence is felt, Howard’s skillfully crafted narrative proves captivating on its own merit.
Could Din Djarin Make a Surprise Appearance?
Potential Storyline Connections
While Din Djarin’s character hasn’t appeared thus far, there’s still a chance for his return within the remaining episodes. With two episodes left in the season, the possibility exists for Djarin to reconnect with the story, especially as he gears up for his cinematic debut in the upcoming 2026 film The Mandalorian & Grogu. The narrative direction of Skeleton Crew indeed leaves the door open, albeit cautiously, for such an appearance—given the impact Djarin tends to have on the story, as evidenced by Howard’s work in The Book of Boba Fett.
In light of Jod Na Nawood’s (or Crimson Jack’s) actions and the children he’s taken, it would be quite fitting for Djarin, now associated with the New Republic rangers, to appear and ensure their safety. Despite his anticipated return, Skeleton Crew continues to thrive independently of Din Djarin‘s presence, standing strong as a unique entry in the Star Wars universe.
