The latest update to Stardew Valley, Version 1.6, brings a wealth of exciting enhancements designed to enhance your farming experience. Developer ConcernedApe has attentively responded to feedback from the community, also introducing a notable new storage solution: the Big Chest.
The Big Chest is a revolutionary addition for players who enjoy collecting every resource available. Unlike regular chests that accommodate only 36 items, the Big Chest provides 70 storage slots, effectively allowing you to store nearly double the quantity. This expanded storage capacity enables better organization of your items, maximizing space on your farm.
Updated on December 31, 2024 by Usama Ali: In contrast to traditional chests, the Big Chest allows for more extensive item organization. You can designate colors to your Big Chests based on the items they contain, making it easier to find what you need. Additionally, this guide explores how the Big Chest can serve as an upgrade to your existing chests.
Acquiring the Crafting Recipe for the Big Chest
To craft a Big Chest in Stardew Valley, players must first acquire its crafting recipe, which can be purchased from the town’s carpenter, Robin, for 5,000 gold coins.
You can find Robin at the Carpenter’s Shop, located north of the Community Center. The shop operates daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, except on Tuesdays, and closes at 4 PM on Fridays.
Ensure that your game is updated to Version 1.6 to access the Big Chest crafting recipe from Robin’s shop.
Crafting a Big Chest in Stardew Valley
To create your own Big Chest, gather the following resources:
- 120 Wood
- 2
Wood can be acquired by chopping trees with an Axe, while Copper Bars are produced by smelting Copper Ore in a Furnace. Copper Ore is extracted from copper nodes in the mines using a Pickaxe or purchased from the Blacksmith.
To smelt one Copper Bar, you need 5 Copper Ore and 1 Coal as fuel. The smelting process takes 30 minutes in-game time, translating to approximately 22 seconds in real-time.
After gathering your supplies, access the Crafting tab (indicated by a hammer icon) in your Menu, then select the Big Chest icon to craft it. You can also color-code your Big Chests for more effective organization and an aesthetically pleasing farm layout.
Utilizing the Big Chest in Stardew Valley
The Big Chest is an invaluable upgrade that enhances your storage capabilities. To begin using it, choose a suitable location on your farm or within your house to position the chest.
Once placed, interact with the Big Chest to open it. You can then drag and drop items from your inventory, similar to using a standard chest. This chest can accommodate an array of items, including crops, tools, crafting materials, and even furniture.
A standout feature of the Big Chest is its ability to replace existing chests without losing the contents inside. Simply approach the chest you wish to upgrade, interact with it while holding the Big Chest, and it will automatically swap out the old chest. All items will seamlessly transfer to the Big Chest.
To customize your storage further, you can change the color of the Big Chest. Open it and select the color option to suit your preferences.
