In the vibrant world of Stardew Valley, players often encounter a wide array of items, leading to moments of confusion about how to acquire specific ones or the purpose of items they already possess. This situation can be especially prevalent depending on individual play styles.
Among the many useful items that can be produced by raising animals, the Duck Feather stands out, although it may take some time before it becomes available to players. Whether your goal involves completing the Community Center bundles, gifting, crafting, or achieving in-game milestones, understanding how to collect this unique green plume is essential.
Recent Updates and Features
Updated December 15, 2024, by Demaris Oxman: With the newly launched Stardew Valley 1.6 update rolling out across all platforms, many players are returning to their farms. This update introduces exciting features such as advanced Mastery, new festivals, and a myriad of fresh items. Notably, it also brings smaller gameplay tweaks, one being the inclusion of pet gifting—now allowing pets to gift rare items like the Duck Feather.
Acquiring Duck Feathers
To obtain Duck Feathers, players must first acquire ducks, which can only thrive in a Big Coop or larger. Constructing either type of coop requires visiting Robin at the carpentry shop.
Requirements for Building a Coop
To establish a basic Coop, players must provide Robin with the following resources:
- 300 Wood
- 100 Stone
- 4,000g
To upgrade to a Big Coop, the requirements increase to:
- 400 Wood
- 150 Stone
- 10,000g
After successfully upgrading the coop, players can purchase ducks from Marnie’s shop for 1,200g each. Once ducks reach maturity, they will typically lay a Duck Egg every second day. However, if a duck is happy and has developed a strong friendship with the player, it has a chance of producing a Duck Feather instead of an egg. To nurture this friendship, consider the following strategies:
- Feed the duck daily.
- Pet the duck daily, or install an Auto-Petter in the Coop.
- Allow the duck to graze outdoors.
- Ensure the duck is brought inside each night.
- Provide a Heater in the Coop during winter.
Additionally, if players achieve maximum friendship with a pet cat, it may occasionally gift a Duck Feather. This occurs with a 20% chance each day; if a gift is given, there’s a 1.7% chance it will be a Duck Feather.
Utilizing Duck Feathers
Once players acquire Duck Feathers, they have several potential uses beyond selling. For those looking to build friendships with Elliott or Leo, it’s advisable to save some Duck Feathers, as both characters cherish this item among their Loved gifts. This can significantly ease the process of developing relationships in the game.
Aside from gifting, players will also need a Duck Feather to fulfill requirements for the Community Center’s Dyes Bundle on the Bulletin Board. Additionally, Duck Feathers can be utilized in tailoring to create the Lime Green Striped Shirt.
Duck Feather Selling Prices
If players choose to sell their Duck Feathers, they can do so at varying prices depending on the feather’s quality:
Quality | Regular Price | Price with Rancher Profession |
---|---|---|
Regular | 250g | 300g |
Silver | 312g | 374g |
Gold | 375g | 450g |
