Highlights of the Steam Deck OLED Refurbished Program
- Valve has integrated the Steam Deck OLED into its Certified Refurbished initiative.
- Purchasing refurbished units offers savings of at least $110 compared to brand-new models.
- Although refurbished units undergo over 100 rigorous tests for functionality, Valve indicates they may exhibit “minor cosmetic blemishes.”
Valve has recently launched a refurbishment program for its Steam Deck OLED, a popular handheld gaming device. This Certified Refurbished program provides an opportunity for gamers to acquire the Steam Deck OLED at a notably reduced price while acknowledging that the condition might not match that of a brand-new unit.
First unveiled in November 2023, the Steam Deck OLED is an updated version of the original model from 2022. Its standout feature is the 7.4-inch 90Hz HDR OLED display, which many enthusiasts have praised as a significant upgrade from the previous 60Hz LCD screen. Beyond aesthetic changes, this model includes various enhancements such as a larger battery capacity, a compact and energy-efficient chipset, an upgraded cooling system, and improved connectivity options with faster Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.
In contrast to the multiple storage options previously available for the older LCD models—namely 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB—the Steam Deck OLED is only offered in 512GB and 1TB configurations. This has led to a higher initial price point, starting at $549. The decision to discontinue the 64GB and 512GB LCD models raised some concerns among potential buyers. However, the recent addition of the Steam Deck OLED to Valve’s Certified Refurbished program across the US, UK, Canada, and EU, allows customers to buy it for much lower prices—starting at $439 for the 512GB model and $519 for the 1TB model.

- Steam Deck OLED 512GB: $439 (a $110 reduction from the new price)
- Steam Deck OLED 1TB: $519 (a $130 reduction from the new price)
Similar to the previous refurbishment offerings for the Steam Deck’s LCD model, buyers can enjoy savings of up to $130 on refurbished Steam Deck OLED models. Both storage variants—512GB and 1TB—deliver the same specifications, with distinctions lying primarily in their screen types; the former has a glossy finish while the latter features an anti-glare etched display. Valve assures customers that all refurbished units undergo extensive quality control processes, involving more than 100 tests to confirm their performance meets or exceeds that of brand-new counterparts. However, potential buyers should remain aware that these models may have “minor cosmetic blemishes.”
Despite possible minor cosmetic issues, Valve’s commitment to equal performance between refurbished and new Steam Deck OLED models is a reassuring factor for consumers. Much like Sony’s PS5 refurbishment program, purchasers of refurbished Steam Deck OLED devices receive a comprehensive one-year warranty, providing peace of mind should any technical problems arise. This strategic move to reduce pricing just before the holiday season is also anticipated to attract more buyers to the Steam Deck OLED.
