About the Show

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez will examine the complex narrative of the controversial former NFL player. In 2013, Hernandez was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Although he was released initially, he was later charged with first-degree murder in 2015 and ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment following the trial.

He was acquitted in this case, but tragically committed suicide shortly after the verdict. The series will highlight these critical incidents and more from Hernandez’s life. “The 10-episode limited series charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and explores the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide, and their legacy in sports and American culture.”

This series draws inspiration from a collection of podcasts released by The Boston Globe on the Wondery app, titled Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
