Streets of Rogue 2, crafted by developer Matt Dabrowski, is set to elevate its gameplay experience as outlined in a recent video and comprehensive game design wiki. The demo was introduced in October 2024, but the launch of the early access version has been pushed back to an unspecified time in 2025.
The original Streets of Rogue, which debuted in 2019, earned accolades for its engaging gameplay, likened to a fusion of Stardew Valley’s charm and the frenetic pace of Hotline Miami. Dabrowski has previously characterized the sequel as “a roguelike with immersive sim attributes that veers into delightful madness.”This combination permits players to engage with a diverse array of side quests, Easter eggs, and unpredictable encounters, creating a rich gaming landscape.
In a candid update to supporters, Dabrowski emphasized that the anticipated early access version won’t materialize in 2024. He refrained from providing a precise date, though he assured fans that a release in 2025 is the current aim. Alongside this announcement, Dabrowski unveiled the foundational roadmap and development journal hosted on a Notion site, giving players insight into the game’s progression.

Initially announced in late 2022 with high hopes for a 2023 early access launch, the game has seen expansive development over the past year. Notable updates include advanced quest generation, refined crafting mechanics, player sleep mechanics, elite NPC functionalities, comprehensive tutorials, skill trees, an upgraded firearms system, and much more. A key factor influencing the extended timeline was the integration of gamepad support, which took significantly longer than expected due to complexities that arose during development.
Despite the delays leading to prolonged anticipation among fans, development appears to be proceeding effectively, with Dabrowski fully dedicated to realizing the game’s potential. As Streets of Rogue 2 shapes into a promising title among roguelike RPGs, players can look forward to being rewarded for their patience when it eventually enters early access in 2025.
