Surprising Fan Reactions: Mahershala Ali’s Response to Blade Movie Delay

Essential Insights

  • Fans were let down by the delay of the Blade MCU reboot release date, although many may have anticipated it.
  • Despite the challenges, Marvel Studios remains dedicated to the Blade project.
  • Mahershala Ali reportedly showed enthusiasm regarding the delay to Disney.

Fans were understandably disheartened by the postponement of the Blade MCU reboot release, but the news came as no surprise to most. Nevertheless, a recent rumor implies that lead actor Mahershala Ali’s sentiments about the film’s setback might differ from those of the fanbase.

Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios revealed that they were developing an MCU reboot of Blade, with Ali stepping onto the stage to declare his role as the iconic vampire hunter. However, since then, the Blade MCU reboot has faced significant challenges, such as the departure of two directors, the employment of six different writers, and changes in casting due to scheduling conflicts. Therefore, when Disney removed the Blade film from its November 2025 slot without assigning a new release date, it did not shock many observers, and questions arose about the potential cancellation of the project or the possibility of Ali exiting the lead role.

In a recent episode of John Rocha‘s The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider stated his belief that Marvel Studios maintains its commitment to bringing Blade to the screen. He noted that discussions were ongoing with a director who would not be prepared to debut Blade in the upcoming fall. Additionally, Sneider expressed optimism that fans would not have to wait until 2028 for the film’s release. As Rocha chimed in, he mentioned hearing from a contact who had eavesdropped on a phone conversation between Ali and a Disney representative, where Ali conveyed his excitement about Blade and his contentment with the decision regarding the delay—a reference to the film’s release schedule. It is important to note that this account remains unverified by any official sources.

Recent speculation indicated that Blade might be sidelined in favor of Multiverse storylines, suggesting a release following the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Sneider speculated that Marvel could be wary of the abundance of vampire-themed projects from competing studios, particularly if the rumors surrounding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film about vampires hold any truth. Regarding Ali’s prospects in his role as Blade, Sneider mentioned that the actor’s ongoing participation will hinge on the availability of more lucrative opportunities. When Rocha proposed a multiverse movie featuring a return of Wesley Snipes as Blade, Sneider dismissed the notion, suggesting it wasn’t in line with Marvel Studios’ direction. He remarked, “If Mahershala wants to stay on board, after being associated with the project for so long, what do a few extra years matter?” He emphasized the coldness of alienating Ali at this stage of development.

While some fans argue that Marvel Studios should accept defeat and cancel the Blade MCU reboot altogether, others express excitement about Ali’s potential portrayal of the character. Current reports indicate that the Blade MCU reboot remains in development, but audiences should prepare for a prolonged wait ahead of its premiere.

The Blade film from Marvel Studios is actively being developed.
