Created by Digital Eclipse, Tetris Forever serves as the third installment of the Gold Master Series—a collection highlighting transformative titles in video game history. Notably, it features the Famicom variant of Tetris, recently added to Nintendo Switch Online.
The December 20 update has made Welltris available for playback, which marks a significant milestone as this game has yet to experience an official re-release. In addition to Welltris, the update also introduces vital enhancements and fixes. For instance, Tetris Time Warp now allows all four players to remap controls, with this capability extended to the compilation’s MS-DOS, Electronika 60, and Apple II games across all platforms. Moreover, a critical audio stuttering issue impacting the Nintendo Switch has been resolved, although this has resulted in the temporary removal of the rewind feature in some titles. Digital Eclipse has indicated that they may consider reinstating this feature in future updates, circumstances permitting.

Patch Notes for Tetris Forever Update
Hello to all the Digital Eclipse fans! Chris Kohler here, your editorial director. We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to Tetris Forever, and like you, we desire more content! Hence, since our launch on November 12, we’ve been diligently working to introduce new features, including a fresh game for you.
Following the initial success of Tetris, Pajitnov received overwhelming interest for a 3D adaptation of the game. This prompted the creation of Welltris, merging classic 2D gameplay with 3D strategies.
In Welltris, Tetriminos—alongside other polyomino shapes—descend from four sides of a well. Your task is to align them into lines at the bottom. Are you ready to tackle Tetris on four fronts? Like the other MS-DOS games available in Tetris Forever, Welltris marks its inaugural official re-release, allowing you to enjoy the game comfortably from your couch.
Alongside Welltris, we are excited to communicate the following updates:
- Players can remap controls in Tetris Time Warp for a more personalized gaming experience.
- Control remapping is also available for MS-DOS, Electronika 60, and Apple II titles across all platforms.
- We’ve resolved the audio stuttering concerns affecting certain games on the Nintendo Switch, caused by conflicts with the rewind feature, which has been disabled temporarily in those specific titles. We’re committed to investigating the possibility of restoring this feature in future updates.
Looking Ahead to 2025
We ensured to share this update before the holiday season, so you can enjoy Welltris during your downtime! Yet, our work is far from over. Jason Cirillo, our lead designer and programmer for Tetris Time Warp, is diligently developing a substantial update that will introduce numerous new features and game modes to our time-warping Tetris game, set for an early next year release.
In addition to pursuing the inclusion of new playable titles, we are also addressing the issue affecting save game functionality across the classic Tetris titles in Tetris Forever. We anticipate this fix to be available by early January.
