The Elder Scrolls: The Ultimate Blueprint for an Epic Start and Finish to 2025

Bethesda has been incredibly active recently, with the launch of its first new intellectual property in decades, Starfield, in September 2023. Following this release, the studio has dedicated extensive resources to post-launch patches, updates, and expansions. In addition to Starfield, Bethesda has also unveiled several other games over the last few years, including Deathloop, Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall, and the newly released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Despite this busy schedule, fans are eagerly anticipating more content related to The Elder Scrolls series.

Although Skyrim has seen numerous ports and The Elder Scrolls Online continues to receive updates and expansions—most recently in June—it’s been over a decade since a new mainline Elder Scrolls game was launched. Recent rumors suggest that Bethesda might soon announce significant updates regarding the franchise, potentially set to make waves in 2025.

A Potential Remaster of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

Back in September 2023, confidential documents from the Microsoft FTC court case revealed intriguing information, including details about remasters for both Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. While the gaming community initially speculated that these projects were scrapped, a subset of fans remained hopeful.

Excitement is now building, as industry insider Jez Corden from Windows Central has claimed that a remaster of Oblivion is real and could be unveiled within weeks. Although Microsoft has yet to confirm this news, there are strong indications of an upcoming Xbox Developer Direct event scheduled for January 2025, similar to events held in the past two years. Corden anticipates that the remaster will be a highlight of this event.

The Elder Scrolls 6: A Long-Awaited Update

If the announcement of an Oblivion remaster serves as a major kickoff for Bethesda’s 2025 lineup, the excitement shouldn’t stop there. The Elder Scrolls 6 has been highly awaited since its announcement in 2018. It’s high time for Bethesda to shed more light on this title, which has become something of a legend among fans.

Todd Howard from Bethesda has acknowledged that the reveal of The Elder Scrolls 6 could have been handled differently. In 2021, he confirmed that the game was in the design phase, and in August 2023, he noted that the game was actively in development. Moreover, statements made in March indicated that early versions were being tested internally.

While it may still be a year or two before the game hits the market, a new trailer teasing The Elder Scrolls 6 this year would be a welcomed development, especially if it reveals the game’s setting.
