Amazon Prime Video’s dark comedy heist series, The Sticky, presents a uniquely humorous interpretation of an actual event. The inaugural season draws inspiration from the infamous Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of 2011-2012. It centers around Ruth Landry, a disgruntled maple syrup farmer played by Margo Martindale, who devises an elaborate plan to steal millions of dollars’ worth of syrup from a corporate giant that threatens to drive her small farm into oblivion. Blending essential elements from the heist genre, this series captivates viewers with its mix of tension and laughter.
Premiering in late 2024 alongside a wave of other thriller programs, The Sticky quickly distinguished itself thanks to its distinctive tone. Critics greeted the first season with enthusiasm, reflected in its commendable Rotten Tomatoes score of over 80%. The season concluded dramatically with a cliffhanger, leaving numerous pivotal narrative threads unresolved. This raises speculation about the likelihood of a second season; however, Prime Video has not yet confirmed a renewal for this exceptional comedic crime drama.
