Are you fed up with only constructing what LEGO offers? Longing to unleash your creativity and think outside the traditional boundaries? If so, you’re in search of a customized LEGO set. But where can you find these imaginative creations? Look no further than the numerous websites and companies available!
10. Friendly Green Dino (Not Yoshi)
This Friendly Green Dino is whimsical, cute, and budget-friendly—but let’s be clear: it’s definitely not Nintendo’s Yoshi (likely due to copyright issues). Nevertheless, we all understand what this is really about. This “No-shi” is available on Brickable.com for just $20! Keep in mind that this price covers only the design of the charming dino; you’ll need to gather your own bricks to bring it to life. Thankfully, websites like Mygobricks.com offer custom brick orders for your MOCs (My Own Creations). But as a LEGO set enthusiast, you probably already knew that!
9. All Terrain Scout Transport
The All Terrain Scout Transport (or AT-ST for short) is an iconic figure from Star Wars and represents the Empire’s terrestrial might. It’s a shame these machines lack arms for support; one Ewok with a tripwire would take it down easily. Fortunately, you won’t need to worry about Ewoks coming for your custom LEGO creation unless you toss some Ewok minifigures at it. This elegantly designed model also includes a stand adorned with terrain details and an official Brick Wars plaque for that extra touch of authenticity (yes, I just coined that term).
8. Town Hall
Inspired by a stunning town hall in Poland known as Nowy Sacz, this Town Hall captures the original’s architectural brilliance beautifully. With a staggering 14,705 pieces, this build is no small feat. It’s large enough to occupy a coffee table, completely obstructing your view of the TV. But who needs television when you can admire this masterpiece all day?
7. Nautilus
This Nautilus set may mirror its bizarre cephalopod counterpart, but it’s surprisingly simple. Comprising just 173 pieces and stemming from an Adidas shoe LEGO set (who knew Lego collaborated with Adidas?), what makes it a must-have? JUST LOOK AT IT! It’s ridiculously charming and can be yours for only THREE DOLLARS—equivalent to the price of a gallon of gas on a particularly good day. Where would you drive when you can just gaze at this adorable creation at home?
6. Minas Tirith
Can you believe you can build Minas Tirith, also known as The White City (historically called the Tower of the Sun) for just $20? COUNT ME IN! What makes this set so valuable? It utilizes pieces from the LEGO Taj Mahal set, meaning you only need to source one existing set for your build. This colossal 3,498-piece model promises a challenge, but the grand reveal? A stunning tribute to Gondor’s seven-walled capital.
5. Sisyphus Kinetic Sculpture
This LEGO creation makes me appreciate ingenuity. The kinetic sculpture features the tragic Greek character Sisyphus, who is forever condemned to roll a rock uphill. The Sisyphus Kinetic Sculpture cleverly integrates mobility, allowing you to observe this forlorn figure eternally pushing his boulder. I might not be Sisyphus, but I can certainly find happiness in having this masterpiece around.
4. First Order Resurgent Destroyer
Do you want to update your aging LEGO Star Destroyer sporting a retro design? Look no further than the First Order Resurgent Destroyer! It’s a fresh take on the star destroyers featured in the latest Star Wars trilogy. With 2,461 parts, this intermediate build will culminate in a striking display piece.
3. The Fell Beast
WOW! This LEGO version of the Fell Beast takes the crown as the best Lord of the Rings-themed LEGO set I’ve encountered. With 931 pieces, it’s an engaging build, but the outcome? A perfect addition to any fan’s collection. Its limbs, wings, neck, and tail are movable, plus it features a saddle for a Nazgul rider! And those claws? According to the creator, they can lift a minifigure-sized horse!
2. Crane LTM 1250-5.1
The Crane LTM 1250-5.1 is a fully functional remote-controlled replica of the real Liebherr LTM 1250-5.1 crane. This custom LEGO Technic design involves 424 steps spread over 209 pages, making for a challenging build. However, the creator assures that it’s more manageable than the previous iteration of the set. Additionally, this model features crab steering, allowing all wheels to turn sideways for crab-like movement. Can a standard LEGO Technic set replicate that? I think not. This impressive machine could easily set up shop in Bikini Bottom!
1. Modular Cathedral
When designing cathedrals in the Middle Ages, architects rarely anticipated that their masterpieces would be finished within their lifetimes—or even that of their children’s. These monumental structures took generations to complete, and this Modular Cathedral custom set follows suit. The original architect dedicated over a year to its blueprint—which translates to about 300 years in LEGO time. Comprising 22,000 LEGO pieces, it’s just as intricate inside as it is outside, boasting a complete interior with benches, a sacristy, confessionals, and stained glass windows. While it may not be inexpensive, constructing such a complex marvel could even allow you to charge admission to view it once completed!
