Top Pokémon TCG Pocket Cards: Two Surprising Mythical Island Standouts

Recently, the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has witnessed a shift in its competitive landscape, particularly following the launch of the Mythical Island expansion. This new set has brought a slew of innovative cards that are not only enhancing existing decks but also paving the way for the creation of entirely new ones. While many anticipated the Celebi ex/Serperior deck would dominate the meta, the emergence of two unexpected decks has left players astonished.

During a recent tournament organized by Pokémon TCG streamer Ursiiday, which attracted over 1,500 participants, the results were particularly surprising. A remarkable 13 players reached the top 32 cut using the Gyarados ex deck. In contrast, not a single Celebi ex deck made it through. The tournament winner even utilized Golem, a choice that overshadowed more commonly considered options like Pikachu ex or Mewtwo ex. This outcome underscores the unexpected dominance of Gyarados ex and Golem, challenging initial predictions.

Gyarados ex has quickly established itself as a formidable force, capable of inflicting 140 damage in a single blow, which can eliminate most Pokémon in the current metagame. When paired with Greninja, a Pokémon that can strike from the bench, players are able to tackle nearly any card in the game. Similarly, Golem proves to be a formidable contender, dealing 100 damage and effectively knocking out many of the major threats in a single attack.

The crucial element linking these two decks lies in the inclusion of Druddigon, a Dragon-type Pokémon. As a Basic Pokémon, Druddigon can be deployed right from the outset, acting as a stall while players build their strategies around Gyarados ex or Golem. Notably, Druddigon’s Rough Skin ability inflicts 20 damage to any Pokémon that attacks it while in the Active Spot. With 100 HP, it can withstand multiple hits from adversaries like Pikachu ex, setting the stage for Golem or Gyarados to finish the job.

It is impressive to observe how players have begun to unveil unexpected deck combinations within the newly released Mythical Island expansion of Pokémon TCG Pocket. Such experimentation may inspire more innovative strategies, propelling previously overlooked cards into prominence within the metagame.

The strategic use of Druddigon as a stall card could serve as a catalyst for future explorations of unconventional Pokémon TCG Pocket decks, particularly for cards with high energy requirements or other limitations.
