Diluc was once heralded as the premier DPS character in Genshin Impact, particularly in the early stages of the game. Despite experiencing significant power creep and finding himself overshadowed by numerous newer characters, he remains an accessible choice for novices. His straightforward playstyle allows players to utilize his kit efficiently without needing to master intricate combos.
For newcomers embarking on their adventure in Teyvat, Diluc’s engaging design and compelling personality add to his allure. Players choosing to main Diluc should consider pairing him with characters that enhance his capabilities, maximizing the potential of the Darknight Hero.
Updated January 1, 2025, by Siddarth Narasimman: Although Diluc has been somewhat sidelined in the current meta of Genshin Impact, his popularity persists due to his user-friendly gameplay and effective teamwork synergies. Here, we’ll explore the best characters that can complement Diluc’s abilities.
For Vaporize
Team compositions centered around Vaporize reactions are optimal for enhancing Diluc’s damage output. This elemental reaction is pivotal for maximizing Pyro DPS, enabling players to tackle the most challenging end-game scenarios effectively. With several Hydro sub-DPS and support characters currently dominating the meta, Diluc benefits greatly from their synergy.
Xingqiu
Xingqiu is a standout choice for any Vaporize-focused team due to his reliable Hydro application and easy-to-navigate kit. His availability as a free character during specific events, alongside regular appearances in banners, facilitates players in obtaining numerous constellations. With his unique skill set, Xingqiu enhances survivability and generates consistent Vaporize reactions, ultimately boosting Diluc’s overall DPS.
Yelan
As a more high-end option, Yelan delivers robust single-target damage, making her exceptionally valuable when paired with Diluc, especially against formidable bosses found on the 12th floor of the Spiral Abyss. While she is more difficult to obtain, Yelan’s exceptional skills for exploration and combat render her a worthy investment.
Furina
Furina serves as a remarkable support character for virtually any DPS unit, including Diluc. Though she may be slightly challenging for new players to master and lacks the consistent Hydro application of Yelan and Xingqiu, her unparalleled off-field damage output and healing capabilities make her a strong ally. When paired with characters that consistently apply Hydro, such as those utilizing Swirl, she shines brightly.
Sangonomiya Kokomi
For players specifically seeking a dedicated Hydro healer, Kokomi is the premier choice. While she may not match the damage output and versatility of her Hydro counterparts, her ability to keep Diluc alive nearly indefinitely makes her invaluable. Additionally, her solid Hydro application further complements Vaporize setups.
For Melt
Kaeya
Kaeya consistently ranks as the preferred Cryo character for Diluc’s Melt teams, providing respectable Cryo application, reliable damage, and enhanced mobility via his passive skill that reduces sprint stamina consumption. As a free character, he is easily accessible for players, though it is generally beneficial to pair him with an Anemo support to achieve consistent Melt reactions.
Rosary
Offering a solid alternative to Kaeya, Rosaria can boost Diluc’s critical rate while providing more stable damage output. However, similar to Kaeya, her Cryo application alone isn’t sufficient to consistently trigger Melt, necessitating Anemo support on the team.
Dione
Diona is an effective Cryo support capable of offering healing, shields, and an additional Cryo source, enhancing damage consistency for Diluc through her versatile kit. Achieving her Constellation Level 6 provides even more Elemental Mastery, benefiting Melt team compositions greatly.
Healing, Support, & Damage Boost
In crafting an effective team, the primary slots should be allocated to Diluc alongside his Hydro or Cryo applicator. The remaining character slots should ideally be filled with support and a secondary applicator of either Vaporize or Melt.
For Swirl
Xianyun
Xianyun’s ability to facilitate Plunge attacks significantly boosts Diluc’s performance as a Pyro DPS. The consistent Swirl reactions that she activates synergize excellently with Vaporize-focused team setups. Given that Diluc boasts the highest Plunge attack scaling in the game, Xianyun becomes an essential component in optimizing his damage potential.
Kazuha
Kazuha is another excellent choice for Diluc, offering an easy-to-use kit with abundantly powerful effects. While his buffs for Diluc aren’t as direct as Xianyun’s, Kazuha’s ability to apply Cryo efficiently supports Melt compositions while also contributing respectable damage alongside the potential for quick elemental reactions.
Winds
Venti, once a towering figure among Anemo supports, has seen a decline since Kazuha and Xianyun’s arrival, which offered more efficient Swirl reactions. His inclusion on a Diluc team may still yield good results, provided players manage rotations adeptly.
Sucrose
Like Venti, Sucrose’s effectiveness can be limited by inconsistent Swirl applications, hindering her position as a leading Anemo unit in Melt teams. However, her accessibility and ability to reach Constellation Level 6 quickly make her a solid option for free-to-play players seeking synergy with Diluc.
Other Supports
Bennett
As an invaluable asset to any Diluc team composition, Bennett’s kit is uniquely crafted to amplify Diluc’s damage output. Achieving Bennett’s Constellation Level 6 is relatively straightforward due to his frequent appearances in banners, granting Diluc a boon in his Pyro damage. Furthermore, Bennett delivers considerable healing and damage boosts through his ultimate ability, solidifying his role as Diluc’s best support.
Zhongli
For players seeking a robust shield for Diluc, Zhongli is the premier choice. The former Geo Archon’s straightforward approach offers Diluc valuable battlefield longevity and positioning advantages. With his reliable shield, Zhongli serves as an excellent complement to various Diluc team compositions.
Baizhu
Baizhu offers a more unconventional option primarily effective in Burgeon team setups. For players looking for a fresh take on a Diluc team excluding the typical Melt or Vaporize setups, implementing double Hydro with Baizhu provides engaging gameplay with its unique reactions. However, it is essential to note that such compositions may not offer the same potency as the standard setups.
Xiangling
Xiangling serves as a strong option for Mono Pyro teams, offering a significant Pyro damage boost and delivering substantial off-field damage. However, players should be wary that these compositions may struggle against certain enemy types and generally lack the powerful reactions that enhance Diluc’s overall performance.
Best Team Composition: Diluc/Furina/Xianyun/Bennett
- Alternative options: Xingqiu, Yelan, Kazuha
This composition is regarded as the most effective for Diluc. It combines the advantages of Vaporize and Plunging attacks to optimize damage output. While Furina may present a steeper learning curve, she yields substantial benefits when mastered. Xianyun consistently activates Swirl, allowing Diluc to execute immensely powerful Plunge attacks. Meanwhile, Bennett contributes an unparalleled damage boost and healing, establishing Diluc as a formidable hyper-carry.
Best F2P Team Composition: Diluc/Xingqiu/Sucrose/Bennett
For players who lack access to multiple 5-star characters or wish to maintain a free-to-play ethos, substituting Furina and Xianyun with Xingqiu and Sucrose is a commendable alternative. Xingqiu’s consistent Hydro application pairs well with Diluc, while Sucrose, while not as powerful as Xianyun, enhances Elemental Mastery and offers valuable effects from the Viridescent Venerer set.
Best Melt Team Composition: Diluc/Kaeya/Kazuha/Bennett
- Alternative options: Rosaria, Sucrose, Jean, Diona
This setup is recommended for players who prefer Diluc’s Melt playstyle. Rosaria serves comparably to Kaeya, available as a viable substitute if her constellation level is sufficiently high. Implementing Kazuha or any Anemo character is crucial, as Kaeya and Rosaria alone may struggle with consistent Cryo application.
Double Hydro Team Composition: Diluc/Yelan/Xingqiu/Bennett
This variant of Diluc’s top team composition emphasizes maximizing Vaporize reactions. With Yelan and Xingqiu on the team, players gain continuous Hydro application and substantial off-field damage, significantly amplifying Diluc’s damage potential.
Mono Pyro Team Composition: Diluc/Xiangling/Kazuha/Bennett
Although underwhelming compared to other compositions, Mono Pyro teams can still yield impressive Pyro damage from Diluc. Xiangling and Bennett together provide strong buffs for Diluc’s Pyro damage while Kazuha’s Viridescent Venerer effect aids in reducing enemy Pyro resistance.
