During episode 7 of The Braxtons, Towanda went on a date with Sean Hall, highlighting the importance of their relationship and how transparent they are with each other. She mentioned that they discuss “absolutely everything,”leading to questions from friends regarding when they might get married.

Sean inquired about Towanda’s upcoming “important appointment,”prompting her to express her newfound comfort with her hair loss, emphasizing that she is “not ashamed anymore.”

Intrigued by her choice of words, Sean probed for more details. Towanda elaborated on her experience:

“I think this is just the thing when it comes to women and their hair. Feeling the shame that you don’t have any or being teased when you know you don’t have any hair.”

She recounted a childhood incident, sharing that in 7th grade, a classmate teased her about her fine hair. Although it was meant to be light-hearted, the comments deeply affected her. That experience motivated Towanda to never allow anyone to belittle her again.

“When I was in 7th grade, this girl used to talk about my hair. She said… ‘girl, your hair is so thin, you’re bald’. But I knew what it was… she didn’t, but it struck a nerve… I will never, ever allow anyone to make me feel this way again,”Towanda shared.

The Braxtons star further discussed her hair loss throughout her appearances on Braxton Family Values. She noted that during season 1, she became conscious of her changing hair and opted for pigtails to conceal the thinning spots. Towanda reflected:

“But then after that, I remember even in the second season… I was relieved… I was like, ohhh, I’m going to get my hair done all the time; I can wear wigs and cover it up. I was able to hide behind it.”

Towanda emphasized how women often define their identities by their hair and expressed gratitude towards Sean for accepting her as she is.

“Sometimes as women, we can define ourselves by our hair, and it’s something we feel ashamed of at times. So it’s just amazing to have a wonderful partner like Sean who continues to look beyond what is apparent,”Towanda commented.

The Braxtons season 1 is available for viewing on WeTV.
