Born Hiromi Kо̄no in Tokyo, Ryo began her journey in the anime world as a background artist in 1981, contributing to the film Sayonara Ginga Tetsudou 999: Andromeda Shuuchakueki (Adieu Galaxy Express 999). By 1983, she played a pivotal role as an art assistant on Madhouse’s Harmageddon, subsequently collaborating exclusively with the studio on numerous acclaimed projects, including the groundbreaking series like Satoshi Kon’s Paranoia Agent (2004) and the storied Nana adaptation Paradise Kiss (2005).
Her extensive portfolio also features her involvement in iconic works such as Ninja Scroll (1993), Perfect Blue (1997), and the Tezuka Productions’ Metropolis (2001). Recently, Kо̄no contributed to the much-anticipated seventh season of My Hero Academia. As a distinguished art director, Ryo’s influence is evident in projects such as Space Dandy, Super Crooks, and the adaptation of One Punch Man creator ONE’s Mob Psycho 100, celebrated as a modern animation masterpiece.
