Tucker Carlson’s Racist Smear Campaign Against Kamala Harris: An Analysis of Misleading Claims

Tucker Carlson is now resorting to fabrications, particularly targeted at Kamala Harris. During a Donald Trump rally held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, he inaccurately claimed that Harris is “Samoan and Malaysian,” which is factually incorrect.

Kamala Harris, who is campaigning for the presidency alongside her vice-presidential choice, Tim Walz, hails from Indian and Jamaican roots. Carlson has gained notoriety for his hateful rhetoric on Fox News, and he appears to be merely another Trump supporter within the MAGA movement. Prior to Trump addressing the crowd, Carlson took the opportunity to spread these racist and false claims about Harris.

“It’s going to be quite difficult to look at us and assert, ‘Kamala Harris, she amassed 85 million votes simply because she’s so remarkable as the first Samoan-Malaysian, low-IQ, former prosecutor from California to become president,’” exclaimed Carlson in his speech. “It was merely a wave of popular support; anyone who believes otherwise is either a freak or a criminal.”

In addition to disparaging Harris’ intelligence while fabricating her ethnic background—she has never claimed to be Samoan or Malaysian—Carlson went further to assert that she is not a noteworthy individual. This, again, is misleading. Harris made history as the first woman to serve as Vice President of the United States, which is undeniably significant, alongside her many achievements as a lawyer and senator.

“She’s not impressive,” Carlson stated. “It’s hard for me to believe that the rest of us are going to say, ‘You know what, [MSNBC host] Joe Scarborough, you’re absolutely right; she won fair and square simply because she’s that impressive!’”

At this juncture, Trump supporters appear to be openly displaying racism, masked as humor or a way to belittle someone. It is appalling.

Recall when Tucker Carlson was dismissed from Fox News?

Tucker Carlson has been somewhat out of work for over a year, following Fox News’s decision to part ways with him in the spring of 2023. The network did not disclose the reason for his exit, leading to various speculations.

“FOX News Media and Tucker Carlson have mutually decided to part ways. We are grateful for his contributions as a host and previously as a contributor,” the network stated. “Mr. Carlson’s last broadcast aired on Friday, April 21^st. Starting this evening, Fox News Tonight will feature live shows at 8 PM/ET hosted by various FOX News personalities until a new host is appointed.”

Carlson was among those suggesting that the January 6 insurrection was “peaceful,” and rumors circulated regarding his disdain for Trump. While it’s unclear what transpired after his departure from Fox News until the MAGA rally, it is evident he craved the negative publicity.

Misrepresenting Harris’ ethnicity is decidedly racist and disturbing. There is nothing humorous or charming about trivializing such matters, and perhaps Carlson’s erroneous claim about her race stems from sheer ignorance. However, given his track record, it’s likely there’s an underlying sinister motive behind his remarks.
