Tulsa King Season 2 Episode 1 Explained: Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher Characters Overview

The highly anticipated season 2 of Tulsa King has introduced new adversaries for the central figure, Dwight Manfredi (played by Sylvester Stallone), following his decisive actions in season 1, where he eliminated Caolan Waltrip and compelled Chickie to retreat. The premiere episode of this new season delivers just that by unveiling two formidable foes for Dwight.

Tulsa King season 2 debuted on September 15, 2024, on Paramount+. The inaugural episode, titled Back in the Saddle, features a synopsis that teases:

“As Dwight and his crew prepare for the opening of their casino and new weed shop, the law comes knocking.”

This episode introduces key antagonists, Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher, both of whom are determined to inspect Dwight’s operations in Tulsa, as they regard it as their territory. The season opener sets the stage for “the General” as he braces for challenges from these new foes, along with the ongoing machinations of Chickie Invernizzi.

Meet the Antagonists of Tulsa King Season 2

After experiencing betrayal from Stacy Beale (Andrea Savage) at the conclusion of season 1, Dwight found himself incarcerated. However, the first episode of Tulsa King season 2 quickly rectifies this by orchestrating his bail for a staggering $3 million, arranged by his daughter Tina.

Upon his release, Dwight receives an invitation from Margaret Devereaux (Dana Delany) to a fundraiser hosted by Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough). Although Dwight aims to cultivate a business relationship with Thresher, it becomes evident that Thresher has no intention of allowing him to conduct business within his domain.

Cal Thresher, a businessman who has pivoted towards the medical marijuana industry, views Dwight’s proposed ideas for enhancing weed production as a potential threat rather than an opportunity for collaboration.

During the episode, Thresher is seen reaching out to Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo), a crime boss operating from Kansas City, to inform him of Dwight’s burgeoning influence in Tulsa. This indicates that Dwight is now set to confront the dual threat posed by both Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher throughout Tulsa King season 2.

Dwight’s Ambitious Business Aspirations

While incarcerated, Dwight was informed by fellow inmate Harlan about exploiting federal subsidies for clean energy and wind turbines. Harlan claimed to have garnered significant wealth by taking advantage of these government programs.

This lucrative idea resonates with Dwight upon his release, leading him to adapt it into his next major business initiative. The strategy involves securing government subsidies and utilizing free energy to amplify weed production, thereby maximizing profits across the board.

This is the ambitious project Dwight intended to pursue with Thresher; however, as depicted in Tulsa King season 2 episode 1, the narrative may be veering in a different direction.

Chickie Invernizzi’s Schemes

Chickie Invernizzi has harbored hostility towards Dwight for a long time, even resorting to the murder of his own father, who favored Dwight. With Chickie having assumed control of the mob, he dispatches his men to Tulsa with orders to eliminate Dwight.

Despite this, Chickie struggles to maintain respect within his ranks, especially given the esteem in which Dwight is held. In a surprising turn, one of Chickie’s men, Goodie, opts to ally with Dwight instead of following through with his initial intention to kill him.

Additionally, doubts about Chickie’s leadership arise within the organization, with some members speculating that he may have killed his father and disguised it as an accident. Therefore, Chickie finds himself in a precarious situation at the start of Tulsa King season 2, prompting him to send a stark message to his adversaries.

In a chilling display of power, Chickie calls Goodie and brutally executes a terrified Jerry, while Goodie listens, which starkly broadcasts that any challenges to Chickie’s authority will not be tolerated.

As Dwight grapples with the threats posed by both Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher in Tulsa King season 2, viewers can anticipate rising tensions in the next episode, set to air on Paramount+ on September 22, 2024.
