The Frostlands constitute a vast area of ice where your Frostpunk City is situated. This extensive arena features barren wastelands and refers to former locations like the Ashtop Mountains, Frozen Bay, and various mountain ranges.

Players can venture through these harsh landscapes using Frostland Teams, which are composed of scouts venturing into the frozen terrain to search for new settlements and resource-rich locations that can provide essential supplies like Coal, Food, and Steam Cores to keep the City thriving.

Before embarking on your Frostpunk 2 Frostland Explorations, you must assemble your Frostland Teams. These scouting parties are responsible for exploring the Frostlands and uncovering new settlements and resource-rich areas.

You can construct your Frostland Teams by setting up Logistics Districts that can be placed on the compass icons at the periphery of the City’s map. Each completed Logistics District can support up to fifteen Frostland Teams operating at full workforce capacity.

To increase this capacity, consider upgrading the Frostland section of the Ideas Tree, which allows you to recruit additional Frostland Teams for your explorations. You can check the number of available Frostland Teams by looking at the number displayed next to the compass icon in the upper-right corner of your screen.

Once your Frostland Teams are prepared, click on the mountain icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to access the Frostland map. Alternatively, zoom out until the map appears. With the map open, you can deploy your Frostland Teams to seek out resources or survivors.

Initially, you’ll only be able to explore areas adjacent to New London. Unlocking these territories will grant access to additional regions. Upon selecting a region, a window will display the following key information:

  • Number of Frostland Teams required for exploration
  • Resources expected to be found upon completion
  • Danger level associated with the exploration
  • Duration of the exploration

Keep in mind that regions farther away with higher danger levels tend to yield better rewards compared to lower-risk explorations. Additionally, the number of Frostland Teams you allocate for an exploration will be unavailable until that task is finished.

Upon concluding an expedition, diamond-shaped icons will appear on the map in the newly unlocked areas. Clicking these icons will reveal the rewards obtained from the completed expedition. Most of the expeditions will present you with options for rewards based on your actions throughout the mission.

Complete an expedition to gain substantial stockpiles of resources, population growth, Steam Cores, or even the opportunity to transform an outpost or discovered area into a settlement, allowing for long-term benefits.

Explorations are an excellent means of acquiring rare loot and resources critical for expanding and upgrading your City. Opting for hazardous expeditions can result in higher and more valuable rewards, and you can construct training centers within the Logistics Districts to prepare your Frostland Teams for more challenging missions.

Besides facilitating Frostpunk 2 Frostland Explorations, these Frostland Teams can be trained and utilized to operate Outposts and Settlements by establishing trails.

After completing specific Frostpunk 2 Frostland Explorations, you will identify Outposts and Settlements that you can control to extract resources and reap rewards. Outposts requiring a trail connection will be marked accordingly. Keep in mind that trails demand Heatstamps and Prefabs, so ensure you have ample supplies on hand before beginning to construct one.

Trails serve as vital connections between remote Outposts and central hubs, functioning as resource transport gateways. By establishing a trail, you can link an Outpost to central nodes or previously established Colonies like New London or another existing trail connected to a Colony.

On your map, endpoints must be connected for trail completion. Once you reach a Colony or endpoint, confirm by checking the mark to dispatch your Frostland Teams for construction. You will also see areas marked with a black dot illustrating how far the trail can be extended.

Be aware that constructing trails across rough terrain will incur higher costs. Strategic planning in the placement of your trails is crucial to ensure future Outposts and Settlements can connect rather than necessitating the establishment of new networks during your Frostpunk 2 Frostland Explorations.
