Raids represent a challenging new game mode in Fallout 76, unveiled with the Gleaming Depths update. These raids are arguably the most demanding activities players can engage in, requiring teamwork and high-level character builds for success. This guide will provide essential insights into initiating and completing raids, along with details of the enticing rewards for your efforts.
How to Start a Raid in Fallout 76
To embark on a raid, players should head to Gleaming Depths. Unlike other missions like Daily Ops or Expeditions, there is no specific menu for raids. Navigate to the bottom of your map, where you’ll find a distinct triangle icon with a skull, indicating your destination. Once you arrive, proceed inside to initiate the raid.
Arrival is just the beginning. Forming a solid team is crucial for success in this demanding mode. Newly introduced is a specific team option geared towards raids. If you’re new to this gameplay style, consider joining an established team as a member instead of leading. Attempting to lead a raid without adequate experience can lead to repeated failures, causing teammates to leave in frustration. It’s advisable to gain some experience before stepping into a leadership role.
How to Complete a Raid in Fallout 76
Once you’ve entered the Gleaming Depths, the raid begins automatically, though there will be no immediate action until you navigate to the first area. The raid consists of five increasingly challenging stages. If you die during any stage and your teammates can’t finish it solo, that segment will fail, necessitating a restart. To enhance your chances of success, ensure you’re equipped with ample ammunition, Stimpaks, and optimal weapon and armor sets. Below is a breakdown of each stage:
Stage 1 – Defeat the EN06 Guardian
Upon pressing the red button in the initial chamber, the EN06 Guardian—a heavily armored robotic enemy—will activate. Players lacking substantial damage resistance may find themselves eliminated quickly. Wearing a full set of quality Power Armor is advisable to improve survivability.
As the encounter unfolds, the center of the room will become hazardous with a blue electric liquid causing damage. Utilize the pillars for cover, but remain vigilant, as the Guardian can damage these structures. Employ ranged attacks, as melee combat is ineffective against this foe. The Guardian’s shield generator, located on its back, must be destroyed to expose it to damage. Once the shield is down, continue dealing damage before the room becomes engulfed in flames. When a blast door opens, retreat behind it for safety while you damage the Guardian.
It’s crucial to act swiftly, as the three blast doors will only open once, limiting your opportunities to attack the Guardian.
Stage 2 – Fill and Defend the Drill
This stage shifts focus from dealing damage to executing a defense strategy. Your objective is to protect a drill while simultaneously locating and delivering fuel canisters. Inside the drill area, you will be safe from regular Mole Miners, but beware of the powerful Ultragenetic Mole Miners lurking outside, who can eliminate you with a single hit.
- Ultragenetic Mole Miners patrol the periphery.
- Fuel canisters are scattered across a wide area.
- Players can carry only one fuel canister at a time.
Successful completion requires teamwork: some members should guard the drill while others scout for fuel. Move quickly to prevent the drill’s destruction, as increasingly powerful Mole Miners will continuously assault your position.
Stage 3 – Defeat Enclave Squad Epsilon
In this stage, your team faces off against Enclave Squad Epsilon, consisting of three potent super soldiers. Each soldier wields a unique weapon:
- Bloodhound: Laser Chainsaw
- Lynx: Cryogenic Grenade Launcher
- Vulture: Gauss Rifle
Before you can deal damage to them, you must take down their Ultragenetic Shield Generators, which are located behind each soldier’s pod. Additionally, incoming Eyebots will attempt to repair these generators, so dispatch them immediately. While the order of elimination doesn’t matter, many players prefer to neutralize Lynx first due to its debilitating effects on movement, making subsequent combat easier.
Stage 4 – Survive the Ultragenetic Horde
Here, you must lift a security lockdown by surviving an onslaught that begins with one Ultragenetic Mole Miner. Damage can only be inflicted on it by shooting nearby green crystals. This creates an explosion that damages not only the Mole Miner but also releases a cloud of toxic gas; therefore, maintain a safe distance.
Players must be strategic with the limited number of crystals available while dealing with various other Ultragentic foes. Only by using the terrain and crystal explosions can the challenge be met, so prioritize larger suspended crystals for maximum damage impact.
Stage 5 – Kill the Ultracite Terror
The final showdown pits your team against the formidable Ultracite Terror—a colossal, venomous serpent with significant speed and power. Target its head and eyes for the most effective damage.
As you combat the Ultracite Terror, avoid its toxic spit and sonic screeches which can disorient you. The environment is particularly treacherous; lingering too close to the toxic lake surrounding the combat area can result in instant death. Pay attention to rising tails; each needs to be destroyed quickly, or they will continue shrinking your safe area. Completing this stage successfully will earn you the primary rewards for the raid.
Rewards for Completing Raids
Successfully completing a raid rewards players with a variety of valuable items. These rewards include familiar essentials such as meds, junk, Scrip, Caps, and ammunition, alongside the chance of obtaining a 4-star legendary item or mod after each stage. Furthermore, players will receive crafting plans for trophies based on the stages they cleared, available only once per section.
The newly introduced Vulcan Power Armor parts are particularly highly sought after, with additional rewards including unique weapons, cosmetic skins, and backpack modifications. Achieving all possible rewards from the raid system will require dedicated effort and grinding, enriching the overall Fallout 76 experience.
