Understanding GHB Prescriptions: Allegations Against Diddy Regarding Controlled Substances at ‘Freak-Off’ Parties

Federal authorities apprehended music mogul Sean “Diddy”Combs on Monday, September 16, 2024, in New York. According to a post on X by the United States Attorney’s Office, New York, the rapper faces serious charges of racketeering, s*x trafficking, and criminal transportation for the purpose of prostitution.

As reported by Time, referencing Diddy’s recently unsealed indictment, Combs is accused of operating a “criminal enterprise”that coerced women into engaging in s*xual acts with male prostitutes at his infamous “Freak Off”parties. At these gatherings, he allegedly administered drugs to women, ensuring their “obedience and compliance.”The substances reportedly included ketamine, ecstasy, and GHB.

According to WebMD, GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, is a naturally occurring chemical in the human brain that is also synthetically manufactured. It is classified as a Schedule I controlled substance, indicating that it has no accepted medical use and poses a high potential for abuse.

While GHB is sometimes prescribed for treating conditions like excessive daytime sleepiness (narcolepsy), alcohol and opioid withdrawal, and depression, there is currently no scientific support for these uses.

According to the Better Health website, GHB is popularly used as a recreational drug due to its capacity to evoke euphoria, relaxation, confidence, and sociability. Additionally, it can depress the central nervous system, similar to the effects of alcohol and heroin, and may lead to blackouts, earning it the nickname “date r*pe drug.”

Diddy’s Arrest Linked to Federal S*x Trafficking Investigation Involving Property Raids

Diddy’s arrest is a result of a federal s*x trafficking investigation which included raids of his residences in Los Angeles and Miami back in March. During a press conference on Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Damien Williams, whose office is behind the indictment, disclosed that authorities discovered multiple AR-15 rifles, high-capacity magazines, and over a thousand bottles of baby oil and lubricant.

According to El Paso Times, citing the indictment, federal prosecutors accused Diddy of “abusing, threatening, and coercing women and others”to satisfy his s*xual urges in a “repetitive and widely recognized”pattern of abuse. This pattern reportedly included physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse.

The publication notes that Diddy and those affiliated with him frequently enticed women under the guise of romantic relationships, only to forcibly involve them in the “freak offs,”which were often recorded and could extend over several days.

In addition to drugging the women, Diddy allegedly “threatened to withdraw financial support,”utilized intimidation and violence, and exercised control over their careers. As per Time, the indictment states:

“Victims believed they could not refuse Combs’ demands without jeopardizing their financial or employment security or facing repercussions in the form of physical or emotional abuse.”

The document continues:

“(He) also utilized sensitive, embarrassing, and compromising recordings made during Freak Offs as leverage to ensure the victims’ continued compliance and silence.”

The report further explains that victims were sometimes compelled to remain in seclusion for several days to recover from injuries inflicted by the rapper.

The legal troubles for the “I’ll Be Missing You”hitmaker began the previous year when his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against him for r*pe and abuse. Although Diddy settled that case within a day, numerous other women subsequently came forward with similar allegations.

In a statement to USA Today on Monday, Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo described his client’s prosecution as “unjust”. He elaborated:

“Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a devoted family man, and a committed philanthropist who has dedicated the last 30 years to building an empire, nurturing his children, and uplifting the Black community. He is not without flaws, but he is not a criminal.”

The 14-page indictment does not detail the precise number of victims, although prosecutors indicate that over 50 victims and witnesses were interviewed. As of this writing, there have been no further updates.
