The Caesar shift cipher, named after Julius Caesar, is a basic substitution cipher where each letter in the plaintext is shifted by a fixed number of places in the alphabet. For instance, a right shift of three transforms G into J, while J becomes M. Conversely, a left shift of three shifts J back to G and M to J. This simplicity lends itself to easy implementation, yet its vulnerability renders it unsuitable for more complex cryptographic needs.
