For activists who have witnessed the inhumane actions against journalists and Palestinian civilians, the ongoing conflict in Gaza presents a divisive issue that will influence their voting decisions.
While some individuals are choosing to abstain from voting or cast independent ballots, Mark Ruffalo sheds light on why he believes Kamala Harris might be the most promising choice for Gaza. ITV News reporter Robert Moore engaged Mark in conversation about Gaza, a cause he has passionately supported. He was one of the actors advocating for a permanent ceasefire in the region and has also called for enhanced safety for other pro-Palestinian SAG-AFTRA members.
Mark articulated, “No candidate is flawless at the moment, but we understand what Trump intends to do.” He anticipates that Trump would “betray” Arab communities, negatively impacting Palestinians. He referenced a collaborative effort by American Arabs and Jews in Arizona who rallied for support of Kamala Harris. This coalition reportedly penned an open letter encouraging others to vote for Harris, believing they could still persuade her to reconsider her policies concerning Gaza and Israel.
Aligned with those sentiments, Mark holds the view that Harris is capable of reevaluating her positions on Gaza. Throughout her campaign, Harris has consistently affirmed Israel’s right to self-defense, while also acknowledging the significant humanitarian challenges faced by Palestinians.
Trump’s Pro-Israel Stance
After the rally, Mark Ruffalo discussed Gaza, a recurring topic for him. “There’s no perfect candidate, but we know what Trump will do.” “Our chances of changing her positions in the White House are better than with Trump.” pic.twitter.com/xRQjM3bTPq

Former President Donald Trump is actively seeking to appeal to Arab American and Muslim voters in his current campaign. He asserted that Israel “must finish” its military actions. His statements do not advocate for the protection of Palestinians caught in the conflict; rather, he has openly criticized the Biden administration’s calls for a ceasefire. Furthermore, Trump has shown disdain for pro-Palestinian demonstrators, even threatening deportation of students involved in anti-Israel protests.
Additionally, Trump disrupted the traditional U.S. approach towards Jerusalem, declaring it as Israel’s “capital city.” The United Nations recognizes Eastern Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip as Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). Given this context, Trump is unlikely to adopt a neutral stance should he return to power.
