Exciting Developments: Hello Neighbor Movie in the Works
- TinyBuild confirms that a film adaptation of Hello Neighbor is forthcoming.
- Acclaimed writer Tyler MacIntyre, known for Five Nights at Freddy’s, will be penning the script.
- Details about whether the film will be live-action or animated remain unclear.
The surge of video game adaptations in Hollywood is only getting stronger. With titles like Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and an adaptation of Fallout all set for release in 2024, the latest addition to this growing list is none other than Hello Neighbor.
Originally created by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild, Hello Neighbor falls under the stealth survival horror genre. Players engage in a quest to uncover the mysteries buried within their neighbor’s basement, confronting a cunning AI that gains intelligence with each failed attempt. Since its debut in 2017, the game has expanded into a franchise, giving rise to titles such as Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, Secret Neighbor, Hello Engineer, and Hello Neighbor 2 over the years.
Hello Neighbor Takes the Leap to Film
The cinematic universe of Hello Neighbor is set to expand with a forthcoming film adaptation. The announcement was made via tinyBuild’s YouTube channel, featuring a first-person view from a merry-go-round adorned with a Hello Neighbor mask. This intriguing reveal included a glimpse of the script titled Hello Neighbor: The Movie. Alongside MacIntyre, notable figures such as Alex Nichiporchik, tinyBuild’s CEO, and Jonathan Carnage, co-creator of the animated series, are on board as producers. However, no director has been named as of yet.

Tyler MacIntyre brings a wealth of experience to the project, especially after his successful stint on the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, which has proven to be highly lucrative and is also crafting a sequel. Both Five Nights at Freddy’s and Hello Neighbor share elements appealing to younger audiences, thus making MacIntyre a fitting choice to adapt Hello Neighbor for the screen. The film will be produced by BoulderLight Pictures, a studio well-regarded for releasing Woman of the Hour starring Anna Kendrick and for working on the thriller Barbarian, which shares thematic undertones with Hello Neighbor.
Will Hello Neighbor Be Animated or Live-Action?
As the project is still in its nascent stages, details remain scarce. A significant point of curiosity is whether the movie will opt for live-action or follow an animated format, akin to the successful Hello Neighbor: Welcome to Raven Brooks series, which generated over 23 million views on YouTube for its pilot episode since launch.
Another unanswered question is which storyline from the Hello Neighbor games will be the focus of the film adaptation. The original game follows young Nicky as he delves into neighbor Mr. Peterson’s secrets, while Hello Neighbor: Hide & Seek outlines Mr. Peterson’s backstory. The film may either initiate the narrative chronologically or creatively interlace the plots from various Hello Neighbor installments.
