In the Marvel Comics universe, Toxin originated from the Carnage symbiote. Since its introduction on Earth, Toxin has bonded with various hosts, with its first bonding occurring with Pat Mulligan, a police officer. Despite being a derivative of Carnage, Toxin proved to be significantly stronger than both Carnage and Venom.

While both Venom and Carnage initially sought to recruit Toxin as an ally, Toxin, heavily influenced by its host, chose to oppose evil instead. The sheer strength of Toxin posed a considerable threat to both Carnage and Venom, leading to numerous attempts by them to eliminate Toxin, all of which ended in failure.

Throughout this conflict, Spider-Man assisted Toxin in battling Venom and Carnage. Years later, after separating from Pat, Toxin fused with Eddie Brock to confront its ‘grandfather,’ Venom. Eventually, Eddie and Toxin reached a tenuous truce to pursue and eliminate Venom. However, after extensive violence, they opted to merge, coexisting within Eddie’s body.

During Knull’s invasion of Earth, Toxin’s strength had diminished due to the frequent change of hosts, leading Knull to deem Toxin an unworthy symbiote, opting not to utilize it as he did with other symbiotes.

Although Toxin is a formidable and captivating symbiote with a complicated history of hosts, the Venom 3 film will present Pat Mulligan as its current host. In the comics, Toxin emerged from Carnage, and similarly, in *Venom 2*, Toxin takes shape following Carnage’s defeat. A brief scene in *Venom 2* even depicts Toxin beginning to take control of Patrick’s body.
