Recently, a gamer unearthed an intriguing find: Walmart is still offering PlayStation Now gift cards even though the subscription service has been officially retired for several years. Originally, PlayStation Now allowed gamers to access a diverse library of titles spanning many Sony consoles through cloud streaming.

In a significant restructuring effort in mid-2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment merged PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus. This move resulted in a tiered service structure where the basic plan, PlayStation Plus Essential, retained features like online multiplayer access, monthly free games, and exclusive discounts, while those looking for cloud gaming capabilities were directed to the more expensive PlayStation Plus Premium. This premium tier not only encompasses the features of both the Essential and mid-tier Extra plans but also caters to the demand for cloud gaming services.

Despite the cessation of PlayStation Now in 2022, evidence suggests that pre-paid vouchers for this defunct service can still be spotted in various places. A Reddit user, known as Turnabout-Eman, recently posted about discovering these old gift cards at a Walmart store, igniting discussions about their validity.

Within December’s updates, three new titles were added to the PlayStation Plus library: the real-time strategy game Aliens: Dark Descent by Tindalos Interactive, the award-winning co-op narrative game It Takes Two by Hazelight Studios, and the MMORPG Temtem developed by Crema. However, several popular titles, including Dragon Ball FighterZ, Life is Strange, and Resident Evil 2, are set to leave the platform early in 2025.

According to a recent financial report from Sony, PlayStation Plus revenues experienced an 18% increase when comparing the second quarters of fiscal years 2023 and 2024. This growth has been attributed to enhanced user spending, particularly as gamers transition to the higher tiers of PlayStation Plus. The Extra plan now boasts a more extensive catalog of free PS4 and PS5 titles, while PlayStation Plus Premium offers an even broader selection encompassing PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP classics.
