Digital Extremes has officially confirmed that the latest expansion, Warframe: 1999, will launch on December 13. This much-anticipated announcement came alongside a thrilling gameplay trailer showcased during The Game Awards 2024.

As Warframe celebrates its 11th anniversary on March 25, 2024, the free-to-play action role-playing game continues to thrive, garnering over 50,000 concurrent players on Steam. The platform has also expanded its user base recently through the release of an iOS version in February 2024. The hints about the 1999 expansion first surfaced in August 2023, with further confirmations made for its December release.

During The Game Awards, game director Rebecca Ford took to the stage, providing fans with a confirmed date for the upcoming expansion. Additionally, attendees were treated to a nearly two-minute-long gameplay trailer that featured intense action sequences, setting high expectations for gamers.

Warframe’s Most Ambitious Expansion Yet

Digital Extremes is proud to present Warframe: 1999 as “the most ambitious addition”to its ongoing series, a highlight in a game celebrated for its substantial expansions. This latest update will introduce an array of new content, including:

A fresh single-player quest
The 59th Warframe named Cyte-09
Two new enemy factions
Four additional mission types
Transformative cosmetic skins featuring voice acting

In keeping with its theme, the storyline for Warframe: 1999 will immerse players in an alternate history set in 1999, where they must safeguard the city of Höllvania from the encroaching Techrot infestation and the Scaldra army. Players will ally with six members of The Hex’s Protoframe in their quest to confront Dr. Entrati, a key antagonist tied to the devastation within this new reality.

Special Collaboration with Balatro

Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes has initiated an exciting collaboration with Balatro. This partnership allows players of Balatro to enhance their King, Queen, and Jack cards using iconic Warframe characters such as Volt, Mag, and Excalibur. This content update, integrated into the Friends of Jimbo 3 expansion, became available a few hours prior to The Game Awards on December 12, enriching the gaming experience across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms.
