Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has continued to impress as an exceptional third-person shooter, largely due to the robust post-launch support provided by Saber Interactive. From new engaging Operations and formidable bosses to a variety of powerful weapons designed for annihilating Tyranids and Chaos forces, the ongoing content enhancements keep players invested.
The recently released patch reinforces this momentum by introducing a crucial new feature that enhances Operations. Although it may seem like a minor adjustment, it significantly alters how players approach various segments within Operations, ensuring that both new players and seasoned veterans find value in their gameplay experiences. Recognized as one of the greatest titles in the Warhammer franchise, Space Marine 2 owes much of its success to updates like these.
Transformative Changes in PvE Missions with Patch 5
Encouraging Every Encounter
The latest update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 introduces an innovative feature that encourages players to engage with Operations more fully. To deter players from bypassing enemies and encounters, the game now implements an Extermination Bonus. As detailed in the patch notes, players’ Extermination Ranks will be based on the number of enemies defeated, with higher ranks yielding substantial experience points (XP).
For instance, to achieve Rank A, a player must eliminate over 85% of spawned enemies, resulting in a +120% XP bonus compared to pre-patch values. Historically, many players opted to skip sections of Operations to avoid foe grind and jump to favored areas. However, this new Extermination Bonus transforms these sections into valuable opportunities. Dmitriy Grigorenko, the game’s director, elaborated on this enhancement:
“This change simply increases the amount of XP players are getting in Operations mode if they are zealously exterminating enemy waves. This aims to incentivize players to not skip encounters, without punishing those who want to skip, and makes the game less grindy in preparation for new features coming down the line (e.g., Prestige Ranks).”
Players opting to skip certain encounter sections will not face penalties. Still, those who take the initiative to engage will be handsomely rewarded. This fair system showcases Saber Interactive’s commitment to evolving Space Marine 2 to accommodate the desires and needs of its community.
Key Highlights from Patch 5
New Operation and Significant Melee Enhancements
The Patch 5 update for Space Marine 2 also brings forth a plethora of exciting content. Notably, The Obelisk Operation invites players back to Demerium, occurring at the tail end of the primary campaign. This mission promises to be as exhilarating as previous Operations, particularly due to the introduction of the Tzaangor Enlightened, a new flying adversary that launches aerial assaults while navigating its hovering disk.
The Dark Angels Chapter pack DLC expands customization options available to players. Additionally, several balancing adjustments have been made to combat, particularly enhancing melee capabilities. Players can now stack melee defense buffs when using blocking weapons, leading to devastating AoE attacks that can incapacitate foes. Furthermore, overall melee damage has been increased, promoting diverse strategies across Operations.
Alongside these improvements, general gameplay flow and various mechanics have received tweaks, including subtle enhancements to a handful of firearms. This update is yet another significant step in a series of excellent enhancements that solidify Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 as one of the most discussed and actively played multiplayer shooters today. Thanks to a continuous influx of Operations, fixes, and balance adjustments, the game thrives—delighting its dedicated player community.
