Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Obelisk Update Launches with New Map, Enemies, and Exciting Features

Saber Interactive has unveiled a significant update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, named “Obelisk.”This update features a new replayable map called Obelisk, set on the enigmatic burial planet of Demerium, which is accessible to all players, independent of their ownership of a Season Pass. Additionally, the update introduces a formidable new enemy, the Tzaangor Enlightened. This agile Chaos unit maneuvers on a Disc of Tzeentch and will be integrated into all Operations missions that involve the Thousand Sons.

For those who invested in the Season Pass, there is exciting news on the horizon: a Dark Angels Chapter Pack is on its way. This pack includes a Champion skin for the Bulwark class, several weapon and Storm Shield skins, plus an impressive collection of over 40 cosmetic items representing various Dark Angels Successor Chapters. Moreover, the update enhances the technical performance of the game, offering higher resolutions and frame rates for PS5 Pro users. PC gamers will also benefit from the support of AMD’s FSR 3 and Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technologies, complete with frame generation capabilities.

In this Operation, you’ll be dispatched to Demerium to manipulate a replica of the obelisk to interfere with the energy shielding the Aurora device. It unfolds concurrently with the campaign’s climax. To access the console at the obelisk, you’ll navigate through a dark tomb, facing increased challenges as the Chaos forces unveil a new Majoris enemy: the Tzaangor Enlightened, who will now feature in every PvE Operation involving Chaos.

The Obelisk update significantly enhances Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 by introducing the new Operation map, which boosts cooperative gameplay through fresh PvE challenges. The inclusion of new experience rewards, termed the “Extermination Bonus,”is designed to expedite player progression by rewarding them based on the number of defeated enemies in Operations mode. Furthermore, improvements to the melee system offer a more refined gameplay experience for users who previously encountered issues.

These enhancements, along with new Twitch drops, are poised to increase player engagement. Rewards are given for watching popular streamers, in addition to various bugs being addressed. While the Obelisk content and the Tzaangor Enlightened enemy enrich the game experience at no cost, the Dark Angels Chapter Pack provides players with an incentive to purchase the Season Pass, bolstering developer revenue. Technical upgrades, such as the integration of FSR 3 and DLSS 3, further optimize the visual and performance aspects of the game across different platforms.

Our Perspective: A Remarkable Advantage for Players

Difficult to Identify Flaws

I am genuinely thrilled about this update, particularly given my fondness for the Warhammer 40,000 universe and my anticipation for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Concerns had circulated regarding the game’s future, but this update dispels those worries. The blend of complimentary content alongside purchasable options ensures that players who choose not to spend additional money are not excluded. While developers must generate revenue, the approach of offering greater rewards to Season Pass holders exemplifies a player-centric philosophy.

With the introduction of new missions and enemies, the game’s replayability receives a substantial boost. Additionally, the fixes in the 5.0 Patch are commendable, addressing common player concerns. Notable changes include enhancements to melee mechanics, such as an adjustment in damage output, alongside a shift designed to reduce the frequency of the Parry – Gun Strike maneuver. Although further balancing might be necessary, this represents significant progress for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
