Lucille Duncan has not pleaded guilty to the murder of James Pruitt
According to reports from Oxygen True Crime, Lucille Duncan has not pleaded guilty to the murder of James Pruitt, which occurred in 2003. Following her sentencing in 2004, she filed a motion in 2005 to overturn the conviction; however, it was upheld.
Furthermore, efforts by Duncan to challenge her conviction in 2015 and 2017 were denied by the State Supreme Court. Her most recent motion was submitted in County Court in 2018 but also faced rejection.
Lucille Duncan did not pull the trigger
Reports indicate that James Pruitt was shot in the back of the head by Gerald Duncan, Lucille’s brother, on July 4, 2003. His body was discovered, wrapped in a blanket, in a forest on July 5, 2003.
Allegedly, James was shot while Lucille, Gerald, and her son Jeremiah were returning from an outing. James, seated in the front passenger spot with Lucille driving, was killed when Gerald produced a gun and shot him, according to investigators.
Lucille Duncan did not pull the trigger, as Gerald confessed to the crime and pled guilty to second-degree murder. However, Jeremiah, Lucille’s son, informed authorities during the investigation that a murder plot had been orchestrated by his mother and uncle, leading to Lucille’s first-degree murder charge in 2004.
After pleading guilty to evidence tampering at the crime scene, Jeremiah received seven years of probation at the age of fourteen. However, he insisted in 2007 that he was pressured to testify against his mother and uncle under threat of a 20-year prison sentence.
Despite Jeremiah’s retraction in 2007, Lucille’s conviction remains unchanged. Gerald reportedly expressed his willingness to testify in favor of his sister’s innocence but was not afforded the opportunity, as noted by the Columbia Missourian. She continues to serve her sentence at the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri.
