Tempo Music has recently initiated a lawsuit against Miley Cyrus regarding her popular 2023 single “Flowers,”asserting that the track has significant musical similarities to Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,”according to a report by TMZ. Notably, Tempo Music holds a portion of the rights to Bruno Mars’ song, which was released in 2012.
In addition to seeking compensation for the alleged copyright infringement, Tempo Music has demanded that Miley Cyrus be prohibited from performing or singing “Flowers”for personal profit. Court documents acquired by TMZ claim that Miley “intentionally” copied music from Mars, stating:
“It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man.’”
As news of the lawsuit spread on social media, many Miley Cyrus fans began to express their outrage towards Tempo Music. An X user, @BuzzingPop, reported on the situation, prompting a wave of responses from netizens, with many questioning:
“Miley has been open about the interpolation, why the sudden cash grab moment? Very weird.”
Supporters of the artist continued to back her, stating:
“Didn’t she literally confirm she interpolated it or am I making things up?” wrote one user.
“Why would they wait almost two years to say something? They want that money so bad,” commented another.
“Bruno himself congratulated and used the song for ads, they’re just money-hungry people,” exclaimed another.
“Took them years to figure out suddenly,” stated another user.
“Get a job and leave Miley and Katy alone,” bashed another social media user.
“They waited until it made a ton of money so the royalty checks would be FAT,” said another frustrated fan.
