The highly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked has reached an impressive milestone in its box office journey after more than a month in theaters. This 2024 movie, which boasts four Golden Globe nominations, draws inspiration from the acclaimed Broadway musical, itself based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel that explores the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.

Record-Breaking Box Office Performance

Since its debut just before Thanksgiving, Wicked has rapidly ascended the box office ranks, crossing the $500 million mark globally. Notably, it has also surpassed the 1978 classic Grease to become the top-grossing Broadway musical adaptation in domestic box office history.

Recent Domestic Box Office Figures

According to a report by Deadline, Wicked continues to thrive at the domestic box office during the Christmas season. With its at-home release set for December 31, the film is projected to achieve significant earnings over the holiday weekend. As of Saturday morning, it is estimated to generate approximately $19.85 million over the traditional three-day period and $32.1 million across the five-day holiday window. This success elevates its cumulative domestic total to around $424.6 million, effectively surpassing the significant $400 million threshold in North America.
