The upcoming Invincible film is making progress, with a striking piece of fan art showcasing Will Ferrell as the live-action portrayal of Omni-Man. This casting may raise eyebrows, yet the feedback surrounding Ferrell’s depiction has been largely optimistic.
Prime Video’s adaptation of the Invincible comic series has gained significant traction, but a distinct live-action film is underway at Universal, separate from the streaming series. Fans naturally have ideas about the ideal casting for characters, with Omni-Man being a critical figure. Recently, fan art merged one of Ferrell’s iconic comedic personas with Omni-Man, resulting in a compelling visual of the actor as this formidable character.
Prominent digital artist BossLogic—real name Kode Abdo—showcased the artwork that features Ferrell suited up as Omni-Man. By incorporating Ferrell’s look from the cult favorite comedy Anchorman, Abdo cleverly gave him Omni-Man’s unmistakable mustache. To underscore the playful homage, the post included the lines, “You stay classy, Viltrum. And Goodnight,”parodying Ron Burgundy’s memorable quote from the films.
Given Omni-Man’s serious character profile, Ferrell might not be the first name that comes to mind for fans. Although he has ventured into more serious roles in movies like Stranger Than Fiction and Everything Must Go, his reputation remains tied to his comedic roles, often embodying the “man-child”stereotype. However, the fan art has resonated with many, convincing them of Ferrell’s potential. As one fan, Chris Henderson, commented, “Surprisingly, this could actually work if Will Ferrell is willing to hit the gym.”Conversely, some dissenting voices weren’t impressed. Instagram user @gingershmoody suggested that Ferrell’s comedic background might serve to shock viewers once Omni-Man’s darker true nature comes to light, stating, “Seeing a violent Will Ferrell would be uniquely surprising and perfectly align with the twist at the end of the first episode.”
As of now, any definitive casting decisions are on hold as the Invincible film is still quite a ways from its theatrical release. Creator Robert Kirkman informed The Direct that the project will remain in development “for a while longer”to guarantee the film meets high standards. Meanwhile, talented artists like BossLogic will likely continue to produce imaginative visuals of what Invincible characters might look like in a film adaptation, fostering ongoing discussion among fans.
The Invincible film is indeed evolving.
