Agatha All Along has finally unveiled new details about the enigmatic Teen, played by Joe Locke, in its sixth episode, providing answers to longstanding mysteries and validating various fan hypotheses. Up until the conclusion of Episode 5 of this Disney+ series, Locke’s identity was shrouded in intrigue, obscured by a magical sigil that effectively prevented other witches from uncovering his true name.
This series continues the narrative of Agatha Harkness, previously recognized as the antagonist in Marvel’s WandaVision. In Agatha All Along, Agatha amasses a group of witches to aid her in overcoming the Witches’ Road trials, which bestow the victors with their deepest desires. To date, each trial has escalated in danger, and with the formidable Salem Seven hunting her down, not every witch in the coven has survived. In the sixth episode titled “Familiar by Thy Side,”viewers finally receive answers to the cliffhanger from the prior episode, which disclosed that Joe Locke’s character, Teen, is indeed the son of Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch. The last appearance of Wanda’s children was in the series finale of WandaVision, where they disappeared along with the hex that had enveloped Westview.
The events in the finale of WandaVision also deeply impacted a young Jewish boy named William Kaplan. On the fateful night of Wanda and Agatha’s epic showdown, William was in a car with his parents, Rebecca and Jeff, when they witnessed the enormous red hex destabilize. This ultimately resulted in a car accident that incapacitated William. Upon regaining consciousness, he suffers from memory loss and confusion, along with newfound abilities that allow him to hear the thoughts of those around him.
How William Kaplan Discovers His Identity
Three years later, driven by an intense desire to uncover his origins, William becomes fascinated with the history of witchcraft. He and his boyfriend Eddie set up a meeting with an individual claiming to know what transpired within Wanda’s Hex. This person turns out to be Ralph Bohner (Evan Peters), the man whom Wanda had claimed as her brother, Pietro, in her altered reality. Ralph discloses to them that Wanda generated twins, Billy and Tommy, within the hex, prompting William to realize his connection to this legacy.
The Transformation of Billy Maximoff into William Kaplan
The narrative surrounding how Billy Maximoff transitioned into William Kaplan remains partially unexplained but mirrors aspects from Marvel Comics lore. Essentially, the potent magic employed by Wanda to fabricate her illusionary existence in Westview was potent enough to bring her twins, Billy and Tommy, to life. Consequently, once Wanda’s spell was lifted, the souls of the twins were freed, left adrift in the ether. Following William’s tragic accident, it seems that Billy Maximoff’s soul found its way into William’s being, thus enabling his rebirth.
The Creator of Teen’s Sigil in Agatha All Along
After his interaction with Ralph Bohner, William Kaplan comprehended his identity as Billy Maximoff. However, he was prohibited from disclosing this truth to any witches or the audience, thanks to a magical sigil cast over him. The source of this sigil was examined in Episode 6 of Agatha All Along. During William’s bar mitzvah, right before the accident, he received a palm reading from the influential witch, Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone). Lilia’s discovery of a bifurcated lifeline foreshadowed his imminent demise and resurrection, hinting that she possibly foresaw his destined transformation and applied a sigil to guard his identity from other magical entities, including her own.
The Reason Behind Lilia’s Sigil
Considering that Billy Maximoff is the child of the formidable Scarlet Witch, he naturally inherits some of her vast power. Lilia may have devised the sigil to shelter him from those who might exploit his potential. It took William more than three years to unearth his true identity as Billy, during which he was vulnerable to various threats. Following his awakening of powers in Episode 5 of Agatha All Along, William shatters the stone housing Lilia’s sigil, granting him the ability to proclaim his true name and unveil his identity to Agatha. While Billy is yet to evolve into his superhero persona, Wiccan, his journey along the Witches’ Road is rapidly shaping him into the young Avenger as depicted in Marvel’s comics.
