For a period, it felt like Wonder Man was an elusive project. Thankfully, the series is set to debut on Disney+ next year, and it appears absolutely SPECTACULAR.
Marvel recently previewed its upcoming offerings in an exciting trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showcasing some enticing glimpses of what’s ahead on Disney+. I caught a sneak peek of Matt Murdock in the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again, and I was thrilled to see Riri Williams represented in Ironheart. However, the real highlight was catching a glimpse of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams in Wonder Man.
The teaser features Simon auditioning for the Wonder Man role, with the assistance of the beloved MCU character Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley. Did I foresee this duo teaming up? Not at all. However, it might just be my favorite dynamic in the MCU now.
Wonder Man seems poised to bring a refreshing dose of humor and lightheartedness. The teaser radiates a cheesy and comedic vibe that has been somewhat absent from the recent Marvel projects. Aside from She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Ms. Marvel, and The Marvels, many of the latest entries have taken a darker, more serious turn. While they all offer moments of levity, that hasn’t been the prevailing theme of the shows or films.
Wonder Man appears to change that dynamic, and I’m absolutely captivated. “Simon Williams, auditioning for Wonder Man,” the first teaser reveals at the start. “I was born to embody this character.” And honestly? Abdul-Mateen truly seems destined for the role. This sneak peek has me genuinely EXCITED.
Fans Are Thrilled
The trailer sparked an enthusiastic response from Marvel fans across social media, filled with excitement about the MCU’s future. If you include Matt Murdock, the brooding Catholic hero, in anything, it’s sure to elicit some strong reactions. Yet, the combination of Wonder Man and Ironheart has genuinely rekindled enthusiasm among fans.
One distinct takeaway is that fans are incredibly eager about Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon. “Wonder Man looks AMAZING! I adore the Hollywood satire they’re aiming for; Yahya is such a perfect fit,” commented one fan excitedly.

Instantly, fans began speculating about how a Wonder Man series could unfold without the presence of Wanda Maximoff. In the comic adaptations, these two characters share significant moments, particularly as Wonder Man is scheduled to release before the Vision series, leading to speculation…

Nevertheless, some fans have grown weary of repeated “Is Scarlett Witch making a comeback?” speculations, leading them to doubt that Wanda and Simon will share the screen.

Regardless of how Wonder Man turns out, this first glimpse is undeniably enjoyable. The vibrancy that Abdul-Mateen brings to this short teaser has me thrilled about Simon Williams’ debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, teaming up with Trevor Slattery might just land Simon in a world of trouble because… it’s Trevor Slattery. We know where his comic tendencies lead.
Prepare yourselves; Simon is making his entrance in Wonder Man in December 2025.
