The latest developments in the DC Universe reveal a fascinating shift, particularly highlighted by the intriguing connection between the new Wonder Woman and David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman. This evolution showcases how James Gunn’s DC Universe is stepping away from the former DCEU. Gal Gadot emerged as a prominent figure in the DCEU, leading two successful Wonder Woman films and featuring in significant roles, including Justice League and several cameos. Despite her popularity, the anticipated Wonder Woman 3 was scrapped following the underwhelming performance of the second installment.
This creates an opportunity for a recasting of the character for upcoming films within the new DCU. Similar to how the franchise parted ways with Henry Cavill, who portrayed Superman, audiences will now welcome a younger version of the hero in Corenswet. Historically, Wonder Woman and Superman have been interconnected in comic lore, and the new iterations suggest a desire to explore different narratives for these iconic characters compared to their DCEU counterparts.
Wonder Woman’s Introduction in the DC Universe Alongside Superman
An Unexpected Appearance of the Two Heroes
While the casting for the new Diana Prince is still underway, Wonder Woman has already made a notable appearance in the Creature Commandos trailer. Similarly, David Corenswet’s Superman debuted in a trailer for this new universe. In the mysterious segment of Creature Commandos, Wonder Woman and Superman feature prominently alongside other heroes and anti-heroes, including Supergirl, Booster Gold, and John Cena’s Peacemaker. Here, the villain Circe presents Amanda Waller with a vision of a grim future, where notable characters, including Superman and Wonder Woman, have perished.
Additionally, there are hints that the full version of this nightmarish sequence may reveal more heroes such as Batman, amongst others. The shadows of several characters are visible in the background, and fans got a sneak peek of Corenswet’s Superman in a previous teaser. They will not have to wait too long for the complete revelation of this pivotal scene, as it will unfold in episode 4 of Creature Commandos, set to air on Thursday, December 19.
Shared Costume Details Between Wonder Woman & Superman in the DCU
Changes in Heroic Costumes within the New DC Universe
Beyond their shared debut, Wonder Woman and Superman boast an interesting similarity in their costumes. Both characters retain their classic appearances from DC Comics in the new DCU. Superman dons his traditional red trunks, a clear departure from Henry Cavill’s portrayal, while the new Wonder Woman sports her iconic swimsuit, contrasting with Gadot’s armored ensemble. This visual differentiation between the DCU and DCEU establishes a fresh narrative direction and enhances the overall aesthetic of the superhero universe.
