WWE Hall of Famer Jesse Ventura Excitedly Announces His Comeback to Commentary for Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE Hall of Famer Jesse “The Body”Ventura is set to make his return to commentary for the much-anticipated WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. This revival comes as part of a newly forged partnership with NBCUniversal, aiming to bring back a weekend special that originally propelled WWE into the realm of mainstream television during the 1980s. The 2024 edition is scheduled to air on NBC, featuring an exciting main event where WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will defend his title against Kevin Owens.

Ventura’s connection to WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event runs deep. He was part of the fourth edition of the show in 1985, where he celebrated victory as a tag team partner with legendary wrestlers “Rowdy”Roddy Piper and Bob Orton. Ventura later transitioned to commentary, where he lent his voice to numerous iterations of the show alongside Vince McMahon.

In anticipation of the show’s return on December 14, ScreenRant caught up with Ventura to discuss his significant milestones with the franchise, his future endeavors with WWE, and his thoughts on today’s wrestling talents.

ScreenRant: Reflecting on the impact of this historic event on your career, what does Saturday Night’s Main Event represent for you?

Jesse Ventura: At that time, we were transitioning from the territory days, and Vince was going national. The shift toward mainstream wrestling was monumental. I vividly remember the first broadcast, we were all gathered in a hotel, glued to the TV, realizing we were on NBC back in the mid-’80s. It marked a definitive moment when wrestling transcended into mainstream entertainment, significantly highlighted when we outperformed Saturday Night Live in the ratings.

With the imminent return of Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25, will you be involved in all upcoming editions?

Jesse Ventura: For now, yes. I’m committed to participating in all upcoming events.

What preparations do you undertake as you return to the booth this Saturday? Are you catching up with current storylines and the roster?

Jesse Ventura: Indeed! After leaving wrestling, I stepped away from following it closely. Now, my focus is on understanding who the current stars are and recognizing their potential. My goal is to amplify their talent and help elevate them further. This isn’t about me; it’s about enhancing the product for them. Plus, I must admit, I’m excited about the creative freedom I now have. After spending 25 years in politics, I can finally express myself openly again.

Which current wrestlers do you think deserve your stamp of approval?

Jesse Ventura: My top favorite from the new talent is Dominik. He captivates the audience, especially the ladies—he’s truly a magnet! His charisma and physical presence make him shine in the ring. I must also mention Cody Rhodes; I had my doubts initially, given his physique compared to his father, Dusty, who was never known for his abs! However, it became evident Rhodes inherited his father’s tenacity, though he’s taken risks that could jeopardize him going into tomorrow night’s match.

How did the conversation about your return with Hunter Triple H come about? What was that process like?

Jesse Ventura: Honestly, I can’t recall if I spoke directly with Hunter. My son facilitated the discussions between WWE and me. He negotiated everything. When I arrived at the venue for a Raw taping in Minneapolis, having Hunter there to greet me was a remarkable gesture of respect. It made me feel valued and assured me that he’s someone I can work with.
