Maggott's Origin Story

Maggott is a uniquely unsettling character in the X-Men roster. Possessing the ability to summon two sentient slugs, named Eany and Meany, he has had his digestive system replaced by these creatures. Despite their grotesque nature, Eany and Meany possess intelligence, enabling them to communicate and recall past events in their vicinity.

The slugs’ dependency on consuming large amounts of food often deprives Maggott of essential nutrients. Summoning them requires painful burrowing from within his body, yet he remains undeterred in battle. Maggott’s resolute spirit was evident after the fall of Krakoa when he allied himself with Madelyne Pryor and subsequently found refuge with the Morlocks.

Maggott’s Heroic Nature Contradicts His Reputation

An Unlikely Hero in the X-Men’s “Civil War”

Despite Maggott’s gross powers and the chaotic antics of Eany and Meany, who have been known to escape and cause destruction, he has a softer side. Historically, Maggott has struggled with his image. Periods of being canonically dead in the 2000s added to his obscurity, but upon his return, he was humorously mocked for his unappealing design.

Yet, the “grossest”hero in mutantkind’s history is gearing up to play a significant role in the ongoing X-Men “Civil War.”Beneath his unique exterior lies a genuinely altruistic character. Before he discovered his mutant abilities, Maggott believed he was suffering from a terminal illness and was willing to sacrifice himself to alleviate his family’s burdens. In a recent confrontation, he heroically stood up against Azazel for abandoning Archangel—a testament to his strong moral fiber.

Now with the Morlocks at his side, Maggott’s return promises to be a pivotal moment for both his character and the broader X-Men storyline.

For the latest developments, keep an eye out for Storm #6 (2024), scheduled for release on March 5, 2025.
