Yellowstone Executive Producer Shares New Developments on Two Upcoming Spinoff Series

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for the Yellowstone series finale!

Christina Voros, the executive producer of Yellowstone, has shared exciting news on the progression of two fresh spinoff series linked to Taylor Sheridan’s expansive Western narrative. The completion of Yellowstone saw the Dutton family returning ownership of the ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation. Meanwhile, Beth (played by Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) embarked on a new journey by purchasing a different ranch, along with their young ranch hand, Carter (Finn Little). This thrilling transition leads directly into their upcoming spinoff, currently in development, alongside another new series titled The Madison, both of which aim to broaden the universe’s storytelling into contemporary settings.

In a recent discussion with TV Insider, Voros also touched upon two previously announced spinoffs, 6666 and 1944, providing insights into their status. She hinted that there are still “some doors open,”implying that the fate of these series hinges on Sheridan’s decisions to carry on with these new tales. Although the current development status remains uncertain, it leaves the possibility for future projects alive.

I honestly don’t know how Taylor chooses to tell which stories he chooses to tell when. I think he has closed a lot of doors on Yellowstone this season. There are obviously characters that we will not see again because they have been dispatched. But I think he has left some doors open, and there’s some doors that I can’t tell if they’re locked or not yet. But we will know when we cross through them.

The Yellowstone saga began its expansion with the spinoff 1883, which explored the roots of the Dutton family as they settled on the land that would eventually become the ranch. Following that, 1923 chronicled events 40 years later, featuring Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) navigating life during the Great Depression. 1923 is set to return for its second season on February 23, 2025, alongside the new series The Madison, which is also confirmed for release next year. Despite the announcements of 6666 in 2021 and 1944 in 2023, their exact developmental status remains unconfirmed.

The priority currently appears to be the spinoff featuring Beth and Rip, as it directly continues the legacy of the original Duttons. Meanwhile, Sheridan is engaged in producing additional shows for Paramount, including Lioness and Landman, which may also impact the development timelines of 6666 and 1944. Although it remains uncertain whether these latter shows are still being worked on, it’s plausible that the breadth of Sheridan’s projects could delay their prioritization.

Potential Future of Yellowstone Spinoffs

Based on Voros’ recent update, it seems that while 6666 and 1944 may not currently be in active development, their future will likely correlate with the performance of upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs. The narratives from 1923 might intertwine with these year-specific spinoffs, whereas the series focusing on the Four Sixes Ranch could potentially merge with contemporary plotlines. Although definitive details regarding their futures are not yet clear, it’s plausible that these projects still possess the potential for revival, depending on the reception of prioritized shows.
